Brand Loyalty

anybody ever wonder what locks people into certain brand trucks? i notice so many folks that swear by ford, or to dodge or to gm...but why? i'm semi-brand loyal to gm because i grew up with gm vehicles and they were all reliable to the point that i never got stuck on the side of the road...i notice alot of cowboy types swarm to dodges and i notice farmers use fords alot..its just a strange thing really

I support AMERICAN auto manufacturers, generally speaking. I have no interest in owning a toyoda, nissan, or honda. Oh, and I wouldn't keep a kia or hyundai if it was given too me-I'd sell it, and let it be someone else's problem!

I grew up with GM in my blood I guess you could say. Uncle was a GM mechanic, dad drove all GM trucks, my first vehicle and everything since then has been GM. I'm not saying they are the best out there, they surely have had their quirks, I just will probably never buy anything else. It is like your favorite brands of jeans, or shoes. If they hold up and you feel good in them, you will keep buying them.

 

Farmers, construction companies, fleet vehicles are typically Fords do to their almost always lower price tags. They will beat the piss out of them for 5 years, dump them, then buy the next cheapest thing that will put up with the abuse. (This IS NOT everyone so don't get upset)

 

I believe the "cowboy" guys you speak about flock to Dodge because of the cummins motors. Blowing black smoke and tearing up sports cars with a crew cab truck is their friday night out. I know, I have friends that live for this, funny really. Around here the diesels are GM or Ford mostly.

I think for me it's because the 2 fords that my mom owned when I was a kid always gave her problems. My dad's first truck was a 1965 Chevy and he drove the doors off of that thing and rarely did it give him any problems. So I think it was seeing my dad's truck go and go and go that did it for me.

I think its primarily what you are raised with. The farmers in my town primarily all drive Chevy's. I tend to see a lot of Fords and Chevy's with contractors. As for Dodges...i feel for the poor SOB that has to drive one of them.

Always liked GM brands, and my first two trucks were Chevy's, and the next two are/were GMC's. I like they way the GMC's look better..... therein lies my preference for the GMC.

Born, bred and will die GM. Family ties to the company are unbelievably deep. That is why I went the path I did

with my career. And it's not that I think the other brands don't make good vehicles either but GM is just much to

far intrenched into my family heritage to go any other way, for me.

i grew up and still like ford trucks, dad has a 99 f-250 7.3 chipped and that thing is unreal. i bought my first truck which was my 2002 gmc, and i really love it, it turned me into a gmc/chevy guy. grandpa has a dodge and he comes to my farm everyday so i get to drive it quite a bit. and i really like it.

 

if i was to buy a gas truck it would be either the new gmc or ford

if i was to buy a diesel it would be the cummins or the old 7.3 ford. ( maybe if the new 6.7 gets to be a good engine i will buy that.)

i probably won't be buying a car for my self (6'3 and almost 300 pounds. pretty much all bones and muscle.)

so i would buy a gmc/chevy SUV.

 

to sum it up i think all american/canada vehicles are really well made. they all have there strengths and weaknesses.

My first three vehicles were all GMC trucks. My parents always owned a gm truck even for me growing up and before i was born. We do have a dodge truck, but that's our farm truck. we use it just for what ever around the farm. Its gutless.

 

Id buy a new gm again just for the fact they work for me and i like the interior of them compared to the ford and dodge. just feels more comfortable. I dont mine the brand new dodges they came out with, especially with a leveling kit on them. They look sharp i think. Still wouldn't buy one. If i couldn't get a gmc truck id get a superduty

Humm, well I guess I would have to say it would be my dealer. My first truck I bought was a 95 Dodge Ram 1500 Reg Cab with the 5.9, bought it from a local chevy dealer. Was a great truck, put 200k HARD miles on that truck. I took it and traded it in on a brand new 02 GMC Sierra Reg Cab 5.3, truck was a monster, but had the piston slap issue, using tons of oil, among other common gm problems, but the local GMC dealer would not give me the time of day, everything was normal to them. But I didn't like paying $500mo for a pile of junk that I was not happy with, so I traded it in on a older 2000 silverado at the same chevy dealer I bought my Dodge from(same guy) and they gave me a great deal and got me outta that Sierra. I had that 2000 silverado for 7+ years and bought a 02 trailblazer for my wife from them(same guy) also, still have the TB, it has 160K on it. Both were and are great vehicles. I just recently traded the 00 silverado in on a 08 Silverado CC at that dealer(same guy, lol) and didn't even waist my time anywhere else. About 2 days after I got the 08 home the brakes started squeaking and I noticed it had the dreaded GM "stop clunk", so I called my salesman up that I buy all my cars from, he had me bring it in, they fixed it for no charge and he even gave me a loaner off the used lot for the day. My wife is really eyeballing a Malibu and I won't even consider going anywhere else because of the top notch customer service I get from them.

my dads always had GM suburbans and trucks since he could drive and ever since i was a young tot and saw a GMT400 CCLB dually became obsessed with GM trucks. and the first vehicle i could call my own was a GMT400 ECLB dually. i also would never buy any thing foreign. all those audi's bmw's, and evo's and STI's really just dont intrest me as i like offroading and need a truck to tow and haul toys and for work.

 

plus the corvette Z06/ZR1 is an amazing car that is not a fairy tale to own because they are not $300,000 and by the time im 50 i will have a corvette. its a life goal. or a 1970 chevelle ss 454.

i think alot of people get sucked into the commercials...i liked dodges alot when i was younger, which i still do but once i had my first gm truck and saw how reliable that thing was i was hooked...love the 800 cat eye look and love the new HD look

I grew up being a Chevy guy...the whole family was Chevy loyal.

 

I think its the dealership that has a lot to do with it too. I wouldn't buy a dodge here if it were half the price of a GM. They're service sucks, and they try to get out of just about every warranty claim they can.

 

My Chev dealership here is awesome, sales, finance and the service dept. I am actually pretty good friends with one of the finance people, he's a gearhead too.

Even the owner will come out and chat with me, and not just since I bought 80K worth of vehicles even when I bought my first truck there for 20K. That's the stuff that brings people back.
