If I put a 285 55 20 instead of 275's will that help stop road rash on my rims. It is only 10 millimeters, correct? Or is that negligable, would you just stick with stock tires?

I have oem 20's on the way but need tires....

Still waiting for gsx2004 ro post up some pics of his 275 60 20s on the same rims. Man that must be one LONG ass play!

Just to be picky, it is 5mm difference. The other 5mm is on the inside edge. Some tires have an extra strip on the sidewall that is supposed to help protect the rim, but, if you are an inch past the curb, no tire will protect the rim. Best protection besides not hitting the curb in the first place is to use a very tall tire and small rim combo. 35's on a 17 inch rim for example. That gets your rim about 8 to 9 inches off the ground.

"5mm difference" that's a good point. THat isn't much of a cushion on 4000lbs dfitfting up against concrete. They are new and was hoping to keep them that way. As I've been looking at them on other trucks I notice some rash on the rims. Probably that 55 tire isn't helping. They havn't arrived yet, so I have a few more days to make up my mind! Maybe I'll go with the 275 60 20's
