2wd - 4wd Rear Axle Swap?

So I have a chance to get a complete rear axle for my 93 sierra. I'd like to convert it to the 4x4 rear axle for the gearing, brakes and the limited slip. Is this possible to swap or do I need to modify and change more than the axle?

if you have a 1993 2wd truck your 2wd rear axle is about 2 to 3 inches narrower (shorter) than a 4wd axle of the same vintage ... GM standardized these things in the gmt800 trucks starting in 99 or 2000. ... you will be better off continuing to look for a 2wd axle...

the 2500 (light duty) 2wd had 16 inch 6-bolt wheels ... and often came with 3.73 gears and G80 locker

Yeah man, if your is a 2wd it most likley has the god awfal 3.23:1 gears, or worse 3.08:1! But however you can swap the bull gear and pinion, without dropping the axle if you want the 3.73:1 ratio, just swap the gears from each axle. I helped my grandfather do it on his '94 2wd. The gears were so high it was hard to find the correct gear, and he even had a 5spd. Hope this helped!
