I'm Baaaack! New Truck (small Problem-i Hope)

About 42 months ago I posted this topic. I had made the decision to trade the 04 Silvy for a Tundra. I believe it was Redvett that said "He'll be back." Well I'm back.

 

I am the PROUD new owner of a 2011 Silverado Crew Z71 Taupe Grey. Picked her up New Year's day (on a down side I did miss all the football).

 

Now I already have a problem. I bought her about 100 miles from home so I had to drive her home through a downpour. About 20 miles from home I got a check engine light (go figure). Since Onstar had been set up I called for a vehicle diagnostic and got a message about "oxygen sensor slow to respond." The actual message mentioned which one, but it's hard to concentrate on that and driving through a downpour. I know what warranty is for, and I will be calling Monday morning, but since so many of us on here like to speculate, any ideas. Bad sensor from factory? Water from rain got into bad connection? Guess we'll find out this week.

 

Also, I am needing to add some side steps/nerfs to the truck as I have 7 and 11 year olds, so their legs aren't quite long enough to climb up. I'd love to find an aftermarket nerf/step that attaches to the rocker panel like the OEM boards. I was going to get a truck with them already on, but couldn't find it in taupe grey. Anyway does anyone know of an aftermarket quality nerf/board that won't break the bank that attaches to the rockers?

 

Oh by the way, I haven't been gone so long that I've forgotten that a thread like this is worthless without pictures.

Very nice! I love that color I got my steps off gmaccessoriesstore.com for a good price. Also Ebays a good place too for steps.

 

Congrats on the new truck. I'm sure you can lock up that sensor issue quick. Just a nu-sense till you get it fixed. You know you don't have to go to the dealership you bought it from for service. Any GM dealership should be able to help you if you have one closer.

Toyota was a lease. No real problems with the truck. It wasn't the most capable 4x4 I've ever owned before. Power was great from the 5.7. Mileage not too bad.

Good to be home, despite the check engine light.

Vroten- did you become a part of any Yota forums with the Tundra and if so did you do a similar farewell thread there? I ask because I'd be curious to know if you were met with the same hostility you got from your thread when you first got the Tundra. I'm reading that thread now and all I can say is how amazed I am at how readily people bash things they know nothing about.

They are holding up just fine. This is the second winter they have been through. No issues whatsoever with just normal cleaning. On my old truck I had some Westins (1st set) and they didnt last but 3 yrs. Here are a few more pics

No goodbyes over at Tundra Solutions. They helped me a lot with my Tundra, but since it was leased and not mine I never felt like making it mine. (I never got a check engine light on it though, a fact that hasn't been lost on my Toyota loving wife and father-they've already started) Anyway noting a quick trip to the dealer won't fix.

 

It was down to the grey and victory red (is it still called that?) Both trucks identical. I kinda liked the grey better from the start, wife and kids all wanted red. They also had a red with appearance package that I really liked too, but call me superstitious the vin had multiple 6's in a row and I didn't want some possessed truck.

 

Comparisons: Power 5.7 vs 5.3 (Sorry Toyota wins)

Ride: Chevy much smoother

Gas mileage: Chevy appears to be at least 1 MPG better already and not broken in

Fit and finish: Chevy never did like the plastic and style of dash in the Tundra

4x4: Haven't tried the new truck yet, but based on previous Silverado experience. GM with locker in a landslide

Check engine light: Toyota

I won't be buying till this summer but I'm torn between blue granite, your color and the red with the Z71 appearance package. Overall I think I like the look of the GMC more but to get the same upgrades I'd need to buy the All Terrain and I want the bench, so Chevy it will be.

 

 

Plus how many classic songs were written about driving your GMC to the levy?
