Does My '94 Gmc Have A Goodwrench Motor? Help

Hi there guys, i have a question that i hope can be answered. i have a 1994 GMC K1500 with a 305 engine. i've had the truck for about two years now and i pretty much know everything about it , except one thing, when i did the first oil change on it, i went to the store and purchased oil and a filter.when i finally crawled underneath i discovered that the filter was completly differant, so when i went back and i asked if i got the right filter, and they said it was the correct one for that year, instead my motor takes a much larger filter, almost a quart!, it takes the original 350 filter, and it screws on vertically instead of horizontally, and i know the motor is factory because i matched the numbers, and the engine isn't rebuilt, 250k and still going! and i know the output isn't an adapter because the original owner said it had that ever since new, which makes me believe it's a goodwrench motor. i just want to know if this was availible from the factory, i do know that GMC trucks had heavier duty equipment. thanks!

Then someone removed the adapter. Not a huge deal.

If it is a 4WD, they were all built with the adapter and used PF52 filters instead of the PF35/PF1218 filters.

The PF35/PF1218's were only used on 2WD applications of the 305/350 engine.

Hmm, thats interesting, because i also have a '93 chevy silverado that was my fathers that im restoring and it has that horizontally mounted filter

and its a 4x4 w/ 350 Engine. but maybe thats because its a chevy and not a gmc.

Chevy to GMC makes no difference.

4WD horizontally mounted PF52 filter.

2WD vertically mounted PF35/1218 filter.

305 or 350, no difference.

Not true at all,Chevy and GMC's use the same equipment....they are built at the same assembly plants,by the same workers, using the same parts. Other than some trim items (emblems, wheel ctr. caps) and sheet metal, mechanically they are the same.

Like ChevyTech said....GMT400 trucks with 305/350 engines that are 2wd uses PF35/PF1218 oil filters,4wd uses PF52

There use to be a running joke at Pontiac Truck Assembly and Flint Truck/Bus that GMC's got lock washers where Chevy's just got flat washers. After all these years, I have yet to find that difference. :nonod:

Haa! thats a good one! , Well trucks are pretty much the same nowadays anyway, i still like listening to my grandfathers talking about arguing with their neighbors back in the day about who had the most horsepower and what not. Today all you here is fuel economy and lies. And the thing that really drives me crazy is the god awfal metric system, its just so un-american! instead of saying 5.3 on tv they should by saying 327! But if you said that to someone today, they would look at you like you have two heads!

Not to pick, but the 5.3 is not a 327, it's a 323. If it was called a 327 many people would confuse it with a small block that was used in camaros and whatnot many years ago. And it's a totally different engine.

Well the 6.0L is still 366 cu.in & 6.2L is 379 cu.in and even the legendary 350/5.7 right? even though the 350 is used by toyota now! :nonod:

The 6.0l is 364 ci. 6.2l is 376 ci. And toyota's engine is a 5.7l but is only 345 ci.

Yeah im not saying you're wrong but 364 is the first cid in the 6.0l catagory if you look on a conversion table, same with 327, 324 is the first in the 5.3 catagory. and same with the 350 before gm seized production, they displaced it at 346 cu.in. in the '99 & up trucks which is also the first in the 5.7 catagory. I don't see why gm would take engines that were successful in the past and change them a couple cube's, but thats just me.Thanks for replying!

You can't compare today's GM engines with old 350s, they're not even close to the same.

Yeah true, you really can't beat the old gm small blocks, especially ford, nothing comes even close to the possibilitys you can do with a 350. the old tbi's and first gen vortecs were really the last years of the classic 350, even though the tbi motors had the worst flowing heads, and practically suffocated the engine of air. they were still a 350, just fuel injected. Thanks for replying, i'm new to this site, so i'm still learning about it.
