What really sets a truck apart from a car? i mean if you look at it aside from 4x4 a car is almost built the same..

well it came to mind when i saw a 5.3 in a colorado today which is closer to a car then a true truck..and i'm just like what makes a truck better then a car besides space

Most cars are a whole different ball game. Trucks are body on frame vs a lot of cars that I know of which have a unibody chassis. You can put a trailer hitch on a lot of passenger vehicles, but they can't tow a lot because the chassis, suspension, brakes, and powertrain are not made to pull weight much higher than the car itself. I think I just covered the core compenents of a vehicle. You can think they are the same, but they really are made to serve different purposes. You don't expect a truck to get 30 MPG and fit in a compact car space and you don't expect a compact car to haul a loaded trailer down a muddy dirt road. A Colorado is just a mid-sized version of a truck to me. I know the new Ford Explorers are on a car/unibody frame, which is primarily FWD. I believe it has lost a lot of it's truck attributes. I think there is a clear difference between the two.

Isn't hondas truck a unibody? :sigh:

I think the major difference between car and truck would be ride height.

Unless you lowered the thing...

It doesn't qualify as a truck to me. I found several websites that called it a SUT (sport utility truck). It has a unibody, rotated engine/primarily FWD, smaller than 6ft bed, ect. Just for kicks I searched for lift kits. The max anybody sells is a 2" strut spacer. I'd say no, but I'm sure some Honda fanboys would disagree.

The sexiness factor. Chicks dig a guy in a truck. Throw on some Georgia Boots, jeans with a Skoal ring, and a John Deere hat...drives the country girls wild down here in South Carolina!! :sigh:

the bed of the truck and it's ability to haul/ tow - inherent to the haul/ tow qualification is the solid rear axle, powertrain and body on frame design.

edit:

I don't see the reasoning of calling a Colorado more car-like, it's a truck, it's a mid-sized truck through and through. A truck doesn't have to be a full sized just to be a truck.

Everything is different. Everything in a truck is built bigger and stronger than in a car. A truck has to put up with abuse that a car could only dream of and do it everyday. A truck isn't just a "big car".

most cars do not have a full frame, have a bed, sit up as high, 4x4, or an optional V8
