Navagation Unit Question

Hi Guys,

As some of you might remember, I bought a new 2010 1500 4X4 Silverado Z-71 LTZ CC/SB in Victory Red. My truck came pretty well loaded; Convenience Package, Off Road Suspension Package, LTZ Plus Package, Rear Vision Camera System, Trailer Brake Controller, 18" Wheels, etc.

About the only things missing from our new rig is the sunroof, which I didn't want anyway and the Navagation Unit.

My question is this: What would it run to have my local Chevy Garage supply and do the install on an OEM Navigation unit?

I guess I should mention that my Chevy Garage has a really wonderful service department.

Also, my truck has the one-CD player unit. Frankly, I use the UBS thumb memory gizzy for my tunes (can you imagine a 68-year old geezer really LOVING the UBS flash memory thingie?).

By the way, I've owned my new truck since last April and it's been frackin' flawless. It's Victory Red and I love everything about it. BUT, I kind would like a Nav Unit.

Or maybe the OnStar Turn-By-Turn could work instead of. It's only an extra $100 a year ... Is this a viable option????

Thanks for your information and advice in advance.

I think the unit itself is about $2500 plus an hour or so labor. Plus the antena and vss harness. I would rather have the nav system. But that's just me. You need to decide the best solution for you.

I have the factory nav system and don't like it. Some of the info on my new disc is 5 years old. It trys to take you through every town you go by. And it was way over priced. You can get a very nice hand held unit for a whole lot less. The hand held should have a lot more points of interest on it and I think some of them can be updated on the net for free.

Find a unit from a source other than the dealer. When I get "used" (a lot of times 100 miles or less) 2010+ USB units we get about $1200 for them. You can find it cheaper if you wanted to mess around on eBay or the buy / sell forum here or other truck forum. Just make sure to get a VSS wire and make sure that your service department has programmed one before. Even if they're the nicest guys in the world and you buy it directly from them for full price, you can run into a nightmare with the programming if they don't know what they're doing.
