First off, I'm new to this forum, but use to the rules, im on tacomaworld. I dont have a chevy but i like them, I personally drive an 06 Tacoma (dont hate me) but any ways...

My friend has an 08 Silverado base/fleet model long bed with the 4.3 with 80K on the clock. Its been running fine and all until now. a month ago my friend took a road trip and while on the road trip the computer on the gauges said ENGINE HOT A/C TURNED OFF. He pulled over opened the hood and then went off driving and its been fine since then. But me and him went off roading and my friend just beat the shit outta his truck, he was going thru mud with pedal to the floor and 4.3 screeming then he did a hill climb and couldnt make it up so he kept on the gas and he slid down (i know stupid right) so then his temp was reading hot. He popped the hood to let it cool down and then when he started it back up the gauage read 160 -cold temp- and the 2 electric fans were on full blast for the rest of the time and the message about engine hot popped up again, but the temp gauge read cool and the fans were on. I think his thermostat is going in that truck because now its back to normal but i know it will do it again so my question to yall is if this is a simple fix or a major malfunction in the computer.

Sorry for the long story

im curious as how you see a truck as investment? you dont gain any cash from a vehicle all you do is put money into it

+1. Trucks are machines that are used until they wear out. They pay no cash dividends, or interest. Unless you are in the trades and you use one to make money, ie, carpenters, landscapers, plumbers, etc. Automobiles in general are a net negative cash flow.

But agreed, it is stupid to beat on something that costs so much to replace/repair.

i mean i guess if you plow, a truck can give you money or some line of work where you need an automobile, but most jobs where you actually need a vehicle, its given to you. i use every vehicle i have to the limits becasue the way i see it, things will break, and things will wear out, and you will have to replace things.

but i love dumping money into my truck for useless things such as rims and exhausts and whatnot becasue i love it and vehicle are what i enjoy. always have money set aside for repairs/ maintnence though..

do you walk to work? do you take a pack mule to get grocerys? an investment does not mean it pays you back in money, payment can be the fact that you don't have to saddle up mr.ed to go to work...anything you buy is technically an investment because your spending money on it
