2009 Sierra Transmission Issues

I've a 2009 5.3 4x4 ext. cab with 32k and recently started to notice a little whine between 2nd and 3rd gear. I tool it to the dealership last Thursday, Jan. 13th to have it looked at. On Friday 01.14, service department called and said the had dropped transmission pan, were waiting on parts, Monday, and would have ready Tuesday. I went by the shop today to inquire about what was actually going on, only to find out they are doing a complete rebuild of my transmission. I pull a 6000 lb. offshore boat up and down the interstate from time to time, but that by no means is over-working this truck. I didn't buy the truck with a rebuild in it, and I certainly do not want one in it now, it's still new. When I asked why I wasn't told about the rebuild, I was told, "we don't have a replacement option, all we can do is rebuild it..." Now I might could understand that ideology if we were dealing with a truck that was having this problem, with it being only in the power-train warranty 100,000 mile warranty, but this warranty work is being done on the bumper to bumper warranty, and the transmission should be completely replaced. Anyone have any insight here? Thank you in advance.

Sometimes the rebuilt parts are better than just replacing with another new one. I'd give them a chance to make it right and if they don't, then you have a leg to stand on.

I can certainly understand your concern, and would most likely feel the same way but I think I'd give them a chance first before complaining to loud.

They wont replace it with a brand new one under warranty. You did not buy the truck with a re-built trans ( i agree) but it is no longer a new truck. Like previously mentioned no need to worry you still have a warranty.

a proper rebuild replaces all internal wear parts, the non-wear parts and case are reused.

my one question that hasn't be specified, what transmission is in the truck? 4 speed or 6 speed?
