Valve Body Replacement - Chicago Area

Recommended Posts

Hello All. Hoping a fellow member might have a recommendation for a mechanic / transmission shop in the Chicagoland area that would be willing to swap out the Valve Body in my 03 Sierra 1500 Quadrasteer (5.3L). I bought a rebuilt unit on eBay, and although I'm mechanically "inclined" this seems like something best left to a professional (with experience, a lift, and proper tools). Transmission is in great shape otherwise - fluid is nice and red, no weird sounds or noises... just want to get rid of the 1-2 bump shift which seems to be getting slower and slower, and my 3-2 downshift issues.

Thanks in advance.

Speedracer,

Thanks for the reply. I will look those up and check them out. If anyone has any other suggestions in Chicago or the NW suburbs I would appreciate it.

Not sure if they would work with parts you brought but if I were near Chicago and needed tranny service I would call Finish Line Transmission in Wood Dale. They are performance shop that is good with a 4L60E.

That is why I found out the hard way that the truck I bought this fall had 3-4 clutch pack replaced in August and then October before I bought it in November and got stranded 130miles from home 6 days after I bought it. The dealer tried to jack me around and put another clutch pack in it. I stood my ground and someone I know from another dealer talked to someone higher up the food chain in corporate service and I got a reman ASAP with warranty.

Point is many dealer are staffed by parts replacers who can't actually diagnose anything more than the scan tool tells them.

jro909, Plach in New London WI is the dealer I had trouble with. I only mention it because I see you are here in WI too but it is a big state.

Dealerships are great for warranty on the repair but I would not blindly trust them to be able to do anything beyond straight up parts swapping.
