8.1 aftermarket exhaust

Looking for ideas and costs from those who have modified their exhaust, looking for something that sounds good and lets the engine breath.  Doesn't appear that many companys have listings for the 8.1 yet.  Please state cost, company and your opinion as to satisfaction.  Thanks !

I custom did mine, so my costs are rather high as I was experimenting.  I may even make another change mufflerwise as I am getting a little tired of the Magnaflow's I have.  I'm not tired of it's volume, rather it's tone.  BUt I don't know yet.

I chopped mine up right at the muffler.  At first I installed two 28" long Magnaflow's standing on end and then connected them to the stock tail/y-pipe.  The reason I had to do two mufflers is because the stock muffler's inlets are both centered.  However on the outlet side, the outlet pipt closest to the passenger side is offset up and the left side is still in the center.  Hence I had to go with one Magnaflow that was center in, center out and the other center in, offset out.  I drove it for awhile like this but I was getting annoyed with the "popping" whistling the exhaust would make due to both lines being merged after the mufflers.

That's when I took the stock tailpipe off and completed the true duals with tips coming out behind each wheel.  MUCH BETTER!  MUCH LOUDER!  ahhhh....life is good!

Each Magnaflow costed me around $125 so 2x125 = 250

Then the piping to fabricate the tails was another $100-$150

Then the two polished stainless steel tips were about $30 each.

So overall I spent between $410-$460.  I haven't factored in labor cause I did it mostly myself.  Add whatever an exhaust shop would charge for them to do it.

AWDVKD-Flowmaster just came out with a cat-back system that's a single pipe out in the same place as the stock pipe.  It lists for $420, but I know that Summit Racing sells it for $249.  It has the Flowmaster Big Block II muffler in it (I think . . . ).  Fitz.

Gibson and Borla have a cat-back as does B&B I think.  But B&B you'll need a second mortgage on your house to pay for it.  I know it's great craftsmanship, but it's a friggin exhaust system NOT fine crystal.  :uhoh:
