Aight, for those of you who don't know, I'm back in college and getting my 4th degree. Taking 3 classes. One of which requires me to hack into the main computer on campus to write/compile some C++ programs. And d**n if I didn't hav to reinstall AOL not once, but twice while I was trying to finish my homework. I've already broken 2 of those "free" disks. I keep picking them up because this problem happens about once every 2 months or so. I had a cable hook up in VT, but now that I'm back in NY at my parents house, I'm back to using a name on their AOL account.

So here is the situation, we have the unlimited use plan. I have offered to pay for the difference in price, basically half of the cost per month. We don't have cable at the house, never really watch that much TV anyways. Since the AOL is paid for the remainder of the year, should I offer to pay for the installation of the cable. Right now the local LAN provider has some special deal, that I won't bore y'all with. Please give me any advice for swaying their minds, they don't use the internet much, but I'm on about 3-4 hours a day, and need the speed!!!!

Sorry for the rant, I could go on if y'all want.......

We have the same deeal going on here... Free card/hook-up and $20 month for first three months. After that it's like $39.95 month (more than dbl my dial-up) plus the cost of monthly cable.

I'm hooked up @ 48K right now which is at the bottom end of the spectrum that I usually connect at.

If I did alot of downloading of songs or large files then I'd probably convert to digital cable, but since I'm doing what I normally do (playing on the net), I don't know that I can justify the cost.

If I was hooking up at 28K or 32K then I'd probably switch, but I think for now I can live with the speeds that I have. That is especially true since I don't have a dedicated phone line for my computer, so I won't save any costs there either by eliminating it.

My friends that have cable love it...

If it was me, I'd just switch to a local ISP instead of AOL. They are usually cheaper, and don't require special software, and have faster access in my experience. I pay $10/month for unlimited access at up to 56K (when the phone line will handle it, which is most of the time) and 300 megs of web space to use. I rarely (less than 3 times in one year) get a busy signal, and the won't hang you up unless you don't use it for a long time, usually at least an hour.

Try checking around for a similar deal, it will be alot easier to deal with.
