Help With Where To Begin Please...

It just started last week and I've parked the truck since. Finally got the garage cleaned out and rolled the truck in last night, so I'd like to get to the bottom of this. It's going to sound ridiculously vague, and I apologize, but every few minutes, regardless of speed or rpm's the engine will simply shut off. I get no warning or idiot lights and no abnormal gauge readings. It just falls flat, I pull over and it fires right back up until a few minutes later when it would die again. It's a 2002 sierra 1500 with 240 000 kms. Anyone have a suggestion for most likely causes, starting from easiest to fix (cheapest) to worst case scenario? Thanks

Fuel pump, not the easiest and not the cheapest but the most likely. Change the fuel filter and see if that helps. You need to change it anyway. If that doesnt help, the next likely candidate is the pump.

Fuel pumps usually won't fail once the vehicle is running but a simple fuel pressure reading, while the condition is present, would tell that tale for sure.

Other than that, I'd want to know of the pcm is seeing a crank sensor signal. Possible crank sensor dropping off and allowing the pcm to shut off the coils and injectors.

Thanks for the quick input guys, much appreciated. A GM tech here in town said oil pressure switch, but I don't get the light? Or see a low gauge reading

Had same problem.Turned out to be wiring to fuel pump had chafed causing a short that was intermittant. It was in the wiring around the computer. There would be no codes.Truck would just shut down. They replaced fuel pump and truck wouldnt start. That is how they found the short. The truck is a2000 1500 Sierra 5.3.Check for correct voltage to fuel pump before changing it
