Water Pump

2005 Sierra 2WD 4.8. Im going to try and attempt to replace a leaking water pump on one of my trucks. I have read and watched so many videos to prepare myself for what should be the hardest part, and it has turned out to be just that, so far. How in the hell do you remove the fan clutch from the pulley? I have tried for an hour using a wrench and hitting it counter clockwise and the pulley moves with the blow of force. Please help so I dont have to pay someone to do what shouldnt be so hard!

Do you still have the belt attached to the pulley? It usually will provide enough resistance to knock the fan loose. I've used an air chisel on the nut once or twice when they were really stuck. One quick pop would do it

When I had to replace my water pump gaskets I took the belt off first and just used a strap wrench on the pulley and a big adjustable wrench on the nut behind the fan blades and it came right off. You can leave the belt on until you break the nut loose and the fan blades and clutch will screw right off.

^this I've used used both methods several times and never had an issue.

leave belt on, put wrench on fan nut and smack with dead blow hammer. It came right off the first time I tried it on my 04.
