Gmt800 Temperature Gauge

The temperature gauge on my GMT800 (sig for exact details) is dead, well most of the time. There is the odd day where I'll see it active but this week is the first that its no longer responding.

How do I determine if it's the gauge or the feed?

Probably the stepper motor. You should be able to use a scanner and get live temperature sensor feed readings on it. I believe the gauge and the ecm use the same coolant temp sensor.

Edit: Does the gauge sweep at all when you turn the key on or when engine starts?

txab - All my gauges sweep only to the left - including the temperature gauge. This morning, however, it worked just fine.

Could it be that my engine is running cold? And when you say stepper motor, what is that?

Txab- thanks. I'll look at checking the solder points and perhaps replace it.
