Plug Wire Heat Shield

Plan on replacing my plugs soon. I was fiddling with them and at the spark plug end of the wires there is a, what i suppose, heat shield tube thingy covering the rubber plug connection part. This leaves not much room to grab the boot and pull off the plug.

Does this metal tube come off when I pull the wire off or does it stay there? Just wondering if pulling on this tube would be the same as pulling on the boot. I dont wanna F anyting up. Thanks

That tube will only come off once the wire is off, so pull on it if you can get your hand in that little space, I always take some pliers and put em' on the rubber part above the tube and twist and pull at the same time, they usually come off no problem.

I just swapped my plugs tonight. The metal sleeve slid forward ( towards the head ) a little bit, and it DID come off with the wire. There is also a little spring at the base of the sleeve. Not sure what it's purpose is, maybe a helper spring? All 8 were the same. Maybe my wirelsleeve combo is incorrect.
