With the key in the on position, but the truck not running, how long does it usually take for the low battery DIC msg to display? After a minute or two, my low battery msg displays and it cuts off the radio and auto climate control (takes less time if the auto headlamps are on which is understandable)

 

Reason I ask is I have been getting an intermittent drive belt whine at higher rpms and I'm wondering if I have a battery or alternator issue. (Which may also be my hissing issue lol )

normal.....i shut the truck off and i tested the battery 12.5 volts

A fully charged battery should read at least 12.7 volts 8 hrs after engine shutdown. The charging rate should be between 13.7-14.7 volts with the engine running.

 

I would also check the connections for corrosion, especially the grounds.

I have never had mine come on and I have used my radio while doing some pretty in depth detailing work. I would also check the voltage at the battery with the truck on and maybe have someone rev it a bit while you measure to see if it is charging correctly. You should be able to engage tow haul to make it really charge hard since it assumes you might have a higher electrical load when towing a trailer.

i will have the dealer do a load test when i am there friday......i went for a drive tonight and tested it (off) and it was 12.1volts,,,,i will re check it in the am

 

my "hissing" problem was VERY noticable when in tow haul mode towing the sleds last week......wonder if the charging system is whats causing my mysterious irregular problem

Can't be normal. None of my 3 GMCs/Chevy trucks will show low battery and I have had mine in the on postition for longer periods.
