Ive got a 99 GMC Sierra with the 5.3l engine. Anyone have any experience or opinion on adding a cold air intake? Any brand that is better? is it worth the price? Thanks

Some people think CAI are a waste of money and not to waste your time and money with them. It is all up to each person.

I like mine and love the sound didn't see much improvement as far as MPG but did notice a much more responsive throttle.

There are lots to choose from, I went with S&B

Best of luck

Cheapest no-name one and ebay, then get a good quality filter for it.

If you must get one then i agree 100% with the post above me.Or just drop in a k&n filter.

Just from my past experiences, I had an 01 with a 5.3 and a K&N cold air intake. Worst decision ever after talking to my mechanic. The oil from the filter eventually will clog your mass airflow sensor if not watched very closely. On mine it plugged, and when that does...prepare yourself for repairs. It will cause engine to start pushing in more fuel to make up for the lack of air. This in term will damage your o2 sensors, plug your catalatic converter, and the list goes on and on. Cold air intakes have their benefits, but if you are wanting a reliable one, find one that does not need to be oiled. This will pay off in the long run.

I installed a K&N on my 01 5.3 & a Volant on my 05 5.3 and I can tell you that both units were well made, fit well but did not give me any more noticeable performance. They both made more noise under load, but thats it. If you look at their repective website dyno charts, most of the "gains" come way high up in the rpm curves. Unless you are driving around town with your foot on the floor, save your $$

I would say to save your money also. If you want to change something in the engine compartment, install a airaid mit. It will clean up the engine bay area a little bit.
