Just looking to get peoples experiences with using spare tires and if there is really a need for one or would a can of fixaflat work for most everyone.

In my 11 years of driving I have only experienced 1 flat while driving, it was on the highway at about 75mph and the tire just lost pressure, it didnt blow out just went flat within seconds. In that case I did put the spare on and a can of fixaflat wouldn't have worked for me because the sidewall was grooved from the rim.

I've only had to use a spare once for my self, the tire shredded so it was the only option. I have put fix a flat in bike tires or other peoples tires but only if the tire was only slightly deflated and it wasn't something stuck in the sidewall of the tire.

I keep a compressor and a tire plug kit, as well as the spare.

Never cared for those fix a flat things. I look at it this way filling my tire with a blob of liquid goop is like filling a water ballon only part way and then trying to roll it. Wobble wobble wobble.

Used my spare twice, first time smashed rim into a curb, wouldst seat the bead after that. Second time drove over a 3 ft tall cement block, put a hole in the sidewall. Spare saved me a tow truck bill twice.

I haven't had the need for the spare on this truck, but on previous truck (Sonoma) I picked up a spear of a rock (gravel road) that went straight through the tread. The tires we pretty bald so went ahead & replaced them, the shop could even pull the rock out of the tire it was so bad. Nothing would have fixed it. I always keep my spare (& check it often). Since I tow/haul often, I'd rather run the spare then have a load on a bad tire that's been "fixed". Also, possibly untrue, but I've always been told that shops won't work on a tire if it has been "gooped" so I just keep the spare handy.

As a technician, I will beg... LOL don't ever use fix a flat. If you have ever had to take a tire off when its full of that crap and spew all over you and the floor, you would never use it again!

I'm not a technician for vehicles. I work on support equipment for aircraft in the military & I can fully appreciate trying to clean up the mess someone has left for you to clean up. I figured to properly "fix" a tire after it's been gooped can't be a fun task. Thanks for the confirmation matt.
