Safe Rpms

ok, i'm calling on you trans experts as my 4l60e has about 120k on it and i'm babying it because i don't need the repair bill right now(knock on wood) what would you guys recommend for safe rpms to be running and what gears?

Where I work we have a bunch of high mileage gmt 800s(like 250 + kms) and they get abused ona daily basis and tow way more than a half ton ever should, never get the trans fluid or filters changed and we have never lost a transmission. On the other hand I know of a two older gentlmen who have both lost transmissions and they were not hard on the truck at all. I'd say as long as you drive deacent, dont fry the tires and dont shift from first to reverse while moving, you should be fine. But if its gonna go its gonna go IMO.

Put it in drive and let it do its thing. No need to shift an auto.

We absolutely beat the heck out of our work trucks, they get raced, ran 24/7 the only thing that gets done is the occasional oil change. Once in awhile the trans filter. We have had 1 transmission problem in 5 years and it was on a 1/2ton under warrenty.

Look your transmission might fail tomorow, might fail in another 200,000 miles. It's already shifted a million times, like a previous poster stated start saving now so it doesn't hurt later. When she blows, she blows!

If you don't want to do a rebuild now, just drive it nice, keep the temp low, keep clean fluid in it, ignore it. Cross your fingers.

I agree. You gotta give it a workout to break up all the bad stuff. Just a SWAG though.

i'm by no means coasting around town, i take it on the highway/interstate every day...i just feel no need to put the pedal to the floor

My '03 Tahoe has 177K miles and I drive it like the day I got it. I'm not hard on it but if I have to merge she still gets floored. I do BG Flush on the trans, brake and radiator/cooling systems about every 3 years.

Ide say dont be afraid to use the truck like it was meant to be, just dont get stupid, and you will be fine.
