Pitman Arm Spline!?

Hey guys!....some what new to the fourms!.....signed up and been hanging around! Very few posts as you can see!! Anyway....went to order some front end parts for my 2005 GMC 1500 Regular 1/2 Ton......one of the parts was a Pitman Arm.....They asked me if it was a 3 or 4 grove spline!!?? How do I know that with out removing it first!? Was wondering if anyone could help me with this!? I don't want to go through the trouble of removing it seeing which one it is .....then replacing it so I can go get the new one......then remove it again!!......Is there a way to find out which it is!? or am I stuck with the "NOT WANTING TO DO OPTION!!!".....Thanks for any help you can give!!

it would be pretty hard to tell without removing it first IMO, just buy both and return the one you do not need

you can count it.... look above the pitman arm theres a lil rubber seal, take a flat head and push the seal up, ther should be about a 3/8th gap where you can count... or just buy both and return the unused one

Most common is 4 spline. Turns out I have a 3. I actually had a pretty difficult time tracking down a 3 spline arm for my truck. I eventually had to order one and wait to get it from the parts store in town.

Thanks rugged!!....I'll give this a try!.....If this dosen't work, I'll just pull it off and borrow a company truck to get into town and get the new one!!! Thanks for the replies guys!!....greatly appreciated!!!
