Magnaflow Muffler Installed And I'm Impressed!

Ordered the 22 inch long 3 in, 3out from Summit yesterday morning. It was on the porch this afternoon when I got home.

I promplty cut the OE muffler out (boy it's BIG) and TIG welded the new Magnaflow in it's place. Not too loud, sounds really mellow. I am extrememly happy with the sound at idle and at slow cruise. It has a pretty good growl at WOT too.

I also ordered a Airaid intake tube that should hopefully arrive tomorrow.

There's a tune in the futer to get the truck better setup to tow the NEW 29 foot camper we just bought last weekend. I was hoping the freer flowing exhaust might help a tad with mileage while towing 5500 pounds. We're going to Florida for spring break in 2 weeks. I figured on almost $750 in gas round trip. WOW.

Do you guys think the tune will help at all? Is it worth the $ to do? BTW I have a 2009 QCSB Sierra with the 5.3 and 6 speed auto. It's the W/T model.

With every truck I've ever had I never seen any mileage gains from any mod I installed. I seen the mileage level out and not have big spikes up and down from tank to tank. I seen the most performance gains from the tunes I had installed.

Yeah, same here, I didn't ever see a mileage increase, but with the tune, I did see towing performance improve. That to me was well worth it.

Congrats on the new setup. Post some photos when the new campers home :)

Stevens do you have a BB tune? I was hoping to attend the tune date in Pittsburgh but may not be able to...

Wonder what is would sound like if I removed that resinator that is over the rear axle? I also have a 6.2L

I am going to the Pittsburgh tune meet. I don't have the BB tune yet,.. but thats why I'm going. You gotta go :) Make it work!

I've heard good things about removing the resonator and I'm tempted myself. You keep the stock tone, just a little louder and not much difference inside the cab either. I just don't like the idea of not having the tail pipe section. Hell, I'd like to find a way to split the rear exit, and match the factory pipe on the drivers side. If i did remove it, I'd have to put in some sort of pipe to connect.

Matt cut the resonator off his denali and loved it.

Yah I definately would have another piece put in. Hmmm....never thought about having it split to come out the other side....... It is cool that we can distinguish between the trucks with the 5.3's and 6.2's by exhaust outlet.

As for going to the burg for the tune its killing me as I really want to go. But Im not sure if I would rather have the autocal so I could return it to stock if I have to take into dealer for service. What if they flash over it?

My mileage improved after I got the Auto Cal and BB gave me the economy tune. It went up 1.9mpg. I was impressed. Well worth the money.

What did it do to your performance for the economy tune?

And

Trey - I'm in the same boat. I'd kinda like to have the Autocal but for the possible dealer trips, but my last trucks never had to go to the dealership :)

Thanks guys. The Airaid intake tube arrived last night. Both parts are on. It's a bit louder under acceleration, I love the sound.

I was hoping these 2 mods would help when I get the truck tuned. I also have a set of towing mirrors on the way as well.

I pulled a 40ft gooseneck 2 car trailer with a 2008 extended cab diesel for a friend of mine. Somehow, his truck didn't come with the tow mirrors. It was a real sketchy ride to Niagra Falls and back!!!

I have the BB tune and saw an easy 1-2mpg gain out of it. And I don't know what all you guys are talking about "auto cal tune so I can go back to stock". With the BB tune, you get spare modules from Justin and he tunes them. Those are the ones you run in your truck for your tune. When it's time to go to the dealer, just pop them out and put your factory ones In. Dealer never knows there was a swap. When I had my edge, I was told that even when I returned it to stock, if the dealer looks at it, they can tell what day and time the software was restored. They know that they didn't do it. They know that everything is stock, but they know that it has been reloaded. Again, I never had any issues with it, that is just what I was told. With the BB, you are always running "tuned" modules and then you can put in the factory ones with your stock settings if you need to go to the dealership. They never know anything was done because they are your original settings on your original module.

I ordered a spare computer for my 2006 GMC from Justin when I had my BB tune done a couple years ago, so I could switch it back to stock when neccesary. I am now looking into getting an BB AutoCal tune done on my 2011 GMC, and you can store multiple tunes on the AutoCal device and restore your stock tune for a dealer visit and then reload your performance tune after you get your truck back.
