Any Gm Pickup Models With Good Ride?

I just test drove a Chevy Silverado 1500 Regular Cab Long Bed Work Truck 2WD last night, and while I liked the truck, the ride was punishing. I was looking to get the Regular Cab Short Bed Work Truck 4WD, but I am discouraged after my test drive. I have driven the older Silverados, 80's and earlier, and they rode great. The old ones were almost car like. It seems like in the truck manufacturer's quest for more and more load carrying capacity, the ride turned to a buckboard.

Do any models have a decent ride anymore?

:dunno: ummm Everyone I've been in/owned rode like a caddy :dunno: Not sure the suspension package you test drove, but I like the ride and feel of the NHT long with the Z71, but thats my personal choice.

But... Welcome to the site.

Z83 package carries a nice ride quality

Z83 - Solid, smooth ride

Z85 - Enhanced handling and trailer towing

Z71 - Enhanced off road capability

Z60- Maximum street performance ( offered with 20 inch wheels )

NHT - Maximum capacity trailering package

Try out a few different silverados, try one of each suspension offered and see how you like it ..

You may be better off ordering a work truck, and paying for the suspension that you like the best ..

Thank you for the responses guys.

The truck I test drove had the standard Z83 suspension so I was surprised. I wonder if certain body styles ride better than others. I think I will go back and try some other combinations of suspensions/body styles.

I have an extended cab standard bed Silverado with the Z85 HD suspension and I think the truck rides smoother then some cars I've been in.

check tire pressure if new 1500 is riding too hard. Many have passenger car type tires and 44psi is max, 32-35psi is probably correct (see sticker on driver door frame)...

New 1500 truck should ride very nice...

I have the Z85 suspension with the Z71 shocks. Or something like that. I remember having both .. which didn't make sense at first, but I believe I have the Z85 suspension with the Z71 shocks..

I have an extended cab LONG BOX, so I have a longer wheelbase than most, which I beleive make the ride smoother .. Mine rides very nice for a truck, espesially over train tracks and speed bumps, it seems the faster I go over them, the funner it is .. or easier it is on the truck .. try it sometime , when you see train tracks, floor it and hang on ..

Compared to what? Older GM trucks? I'd say you're in the minority on this one.

Either way though, the shorter the wheelbase, the worse the ride will be.

I have an 08 Crew Cab with the Z60 and I think it rides better than my wifes Audi. It rides smooth but still feels like a truck.

On a side note...what are the main differences in the rear suspension between a Z85 and Z60.
