Rust Rust And More Rust

Gmc Sierra 1500 SLT cc 3 months old, the front bumper is rusted in one spot, rear 20'' rims are pitted with rust spots on edges both sides, 6'' oval side steps have rust spots on the sides towards bottom. Off to the dealer, I'm pretty pissed, what will this truck look like in 3 years and I am always so picky on keeping it clean!

There are a few people here that have started threads about rusted front bumpers and rusted 6in oval step, kinda disappointing but since you are not the only one you should not encounter any resistance with the dealer for warranty claims

Sorry bud, I just now noticed you are in Canada and prices over there are higher. I would not be very delighted either. The point is, they may replace all the parts, but how good will the new ones be? And if these rust quickly too, then how many times will they replace them? Only until your basic 3 year/36k warranty runs out.

That's why I bought my GMT400. I really wanted a GMT900, but thought I'd save up and buy a new body, whenever they come out. What a bunch of crap. You spend $40K + on a new truck and this happens. The truck I bought, '97 Sierra, 130,000miles shows no signs of rust whatsoever on the body. Cost cutting I guess.

same thing happened to mine! just the rear bumper though. took it in and they replaced it. no questions

I could see 3 years and rust, but 3 months? How cheap are they really making things these days, you pay good money, for what. For all you guys who live in non/snow/salt country you are very lucky.

don't forget rail dust, that seems to be a big factor as well.

Folks, I would probably be upset myself, but let's be realistic here. Go do a search for "rust" on Dodge, Ford, Crapota, and Nissan forums, and you'll find posts with similar issues. New trucks with rust on bumpers, and wheels. Most common cause: harsh de-icer chemicals being used on the roads, as well as rail dust.

 

In this day and age it does not matter how much $$$ you have paid for a vehicle, $15,000 or $100,000 they all have problems, stupid problems. It's just a fact of life.

Judging by the sticker prices, you would think they use gauge 11 steel on body panels and 7 gauge steel on bumpers, with 8 layers of chrome on every chromed part.

Yeah, and cheap chrome job and cheap thin steel have absolutely nothing to do with it. They never used salt on roads before, and trains were invented just two years ago, right?

 

This is the same lame argument as blaming a prematurely rusty ship hull on salt water.
