Battery drains overnight on my 93 CK pickup. Exept when it's in the technician's shop. I've isolated it to the courtesy light circuit by using a 12v trouble light connected between battery negative terminal and ground. Pulled all the fuses one at a time, and when i got to the courtesy light fuse, the trouble light quit glowing. Also, I do not have the battery drain as long as I keep that courtesy light fuse pulled. Local technician said he couldn't find a drain. Said he put the courtesy light fuse in and it started every day he had it (9 days). Also said he did the ground/drain check and did not see anything. Maybe he did but I remain skeptical. Regardless, the courtesy lights appear to work fine...they fade out once doors are closed. So for now, i've got the fuse out to keep the 3 mos. old battery from draining overnight. One thing I'm wondering is if "locking" the steering wheel after pulling the ignition key affects the drain. Maybe the Tech did not lock the wheel like I do and there is a short in the column that is associated with the courtesy light circuit. Any assistance is appreciated. Ed in Arkansas

I have exactly this same problem, minus the mechanic shop. I've been told that since my voltage gauge bobbles when I turn on the turn signals that there has to be a short in the column. I could not isolate it via the method you described. I pulled every fuse one at a time and it remained on. I've heard there are relays that can be stuck, but have yet to find any evidence of that. Would be great to figure this out.
