'99 K1500 Suburban Hesitates

I am new to this forum, but I have been on the GMTruck club forum for about a year and have posed this scenario to them recently.

 

I just did a tune up on my k1500 suburban, this is the kit I used. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-TST3/

 

plugs, wires, rotor, and cap.

 

Before i did this tune up I had problems with hesitation when giving it more than half throttle, such as if you were on the on ramp getting up to highway speed. I still have this problem after doing the tune up. I also cleaned the mass air flow sensor.

 

Some things I am thinking are, fuel pressure, maybe a new mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor....I dont have a check engine light so no codes to pull. Any thoughts on where I should start, how to diagnose this. Thanks!

Look at your fuel pressure regulator. Remove the vacuum tube and see if you have fuel present. If so, replace.

 

Also take a fuel pressure reading. Key on engine off, pressure should be 60-66 psi

 

Did you change the fuel filter?

I did not replace the fuel filter. Where is the fuel pressure regulator located, and how can it be tested. Will they do a test at a parts store like Advance Auto Parts.

IIRC, it is located on the drivers side of the intake. FP regulator looks something like this:

 

 

The main way of testing is the presence of fuel in the line as explained above.

 

Most parts stores will "loan" you a pressure gauge to test fuel pressure

Alright, thanks! I was so stressed out yesterday, doing that tune up, then not seeing the results I expected....Maybe I am a newbie, but those plugs and wires were not easy to get at.

It was the fuel filter. Problem solved.
