Electrical Problem

Both taillights of my sons truck quit working. Brake lights and signals work fine. Tried a new switch and lights, still not working. Figure it has to be in the harness between the taillight T connector and the headlight switch. Has anyone had a similar problem and can tell me where to look for specific areas for abrasion or breaks? Thanks. Terry

I'd investigate the brake light switch located at the pedal.

The only time there was a T connector under the rear of these trucks is when it was added for trailer wiring. Remove it and see what happens. Other than that, a test light, and working from rear to front on that brown running light circuit, is your friend. Could be a turn signal switch, also, but I doubt it.

Similar thing happened to me. My ground wire to the chassis was almost toast. I had just enough ground to run lights, but no turn or brake.

I've also seen people try to splice in a wiring harness using a crimp style connector. I've seen these chop the wire in half killing the lights.

You better check. The fuse for the taillamps is usually connected to the dash lights. After stopping hundreds of vehicles for running at night without taillights and helping them change the fuse instead of issuing a fix-it ticket, I can assure you the taillamps are fused.
