Well everyone is different.

Here is what I thought:

 

4.3 = 262

4.8 = 294

5.3 = 323

6.0 = 364

6.6 = 403

8.1 = 496

Most of them have had the GM rounding formula done to them for brochures.  Just as the vernable 350 is actually 348.xxxx.  And some CID numbers carry the myth and nostagila of SBC/BBC of lore.

 

It's marketing.  Some number just sound better than others.

 

In the 2002 Silverado/Sierra Service Manual the displacements are listed as:

 

4.3  262

4.8  293

5.3  325

6.0  364

6.6  403

8.1  492 <-edit...I did'nt read the manual right it should be 496

 

I've heard the 293 as a 296, 325 as a 327, 364 as a 366, 492 as a 494 and 496.
