Leaky Back Window Help

hey guys. so the wife drove the truck the other day and noticed the headliner was wet on the driver side. the water seems to be coming in from the rear window at the top corner driver side. now ive noticed some light staining on the headliner and wasnt sure what it was. thought it might have been from the previous owner smoking but now im thinking that its a water stain on the head liner. so what are my options with this? gm says my aftermarket gm warranty wont cover it. doesnt seem to cover much of anything the crooks. so is this a common easy to fix thing? or does the rear glass have to come out or what?

had the EXACT same issue exept it was on the passenger back corner and YES it is coming from the back window seal....mine was toast and covered under my bumper to bumper warranty. the stain will come out...i told the service manager to get on the horn for a new headliner to replace my stained one under warranty if it wasnt completely stain free when i got it back....but they managed to get it out no problem. i dont really see why this wouldnt be coverd undder your extended warranty it is a "non maintence" issue? ie its not brakes strucks tires that kind of thing.

thats what the chick at the counter told me. its a wear item. im like wtf, i paid etra for warranty that repairs stone chips but this isnt covered? ive gotta go in tomorrow, again, because my heated seat is doing the crazy dance and turning itself on and cycling between the settings on its own. of course gm couldnt replicate this and i got charged for them to look at it but now i have video proof its messed up. so im gonna talk to the guy whos in charge of the service department tomorrow. thanks for the heads up. and yes ill bitch about the headliner. so far ive had the truck since october and its been back for a little over 2 grand in repairs and is now going in for the heated seats and soon for a leaking tranny. they put dye into it, but it was covered in tranny fluid so i get to wait a little longer and let it leak all over mydriveway. lucky me.

my suggestion would be take it to another GM dealer...use your warranty there...i actually had this problem with the brick it is a furniture retailer here in edmonton AB and i had some issues got trhough them with a WHOLE LOT of bitching.....went in a year later to another brick to buy a new matress and had the manager of that store tell me that if i had of taken it to him or another manager it would have been reselved no problem and that some people are just D!*cks

after the tranny leak is repaired i wont be going back to them. i gave them 2 pages of work for warranty on my visit last week. including a whistling air vent. the chick tried telling me my truck is super tight and that it stops whistling when i open a window. yeah cause i wanna have a window open with the hvac blowing. defeats the purpose of it. told her ill be buying a ford next. im sick of this dealership man i wish i had never bought this truck from them. my deductable is 100 bucks. my last visit cost me $266 because they couldnt find some problems, and oh get this, my engine developed the 5.3 piston slap. so i brought it in, they diagnosed it as that, and since gm refuses to fix it, i get charged for them to diagnose it. wtf. im seriously done with them aft erht tranny leak is resolved. if the truck was still within its 30 day return limit id leave it at their door tomorrow and go buy another one from somewhere else.

Mine leaked to but it turned out to be the thrid brake light leaking. It would leak and water would travel to the corners of the headliner and leak down the side too. I just added a gasket to make it stop leaking.

That is exactly where mine leaked and caused the exact water in the headline exactly as the OP stated. I replaced the thrid brake light, it was really inexpensive, I think around $50 from the dealer. You could add a new seal to yours as well but mine was starting to crack around the screw holes and that is what was causing it to not tighten down and seal up.

good to know thanks guys. the dealer service chick said my extended warranty wont cover it, so i talked to her boss and hes gonna have his body shop guys look at it and said they will likely take care of it for me. im going back tomorrow to get the heated seat looked at, they didnt have time today.

Had my truck in last weak for a stain on the headliner on by the C pillar on the passanger side. Dealership found the cause being the third break light leaking.

good to know, glad that its a known issue and not a rear window problem. maybe ill be lucky enough to have it be that simple. my only concern was any mold that may be forming in the headliner and any potential rust in the roof.

i talked to the manager today,. hes booking me in for next wednesday, said he talked to gm about the issue and theyve approved the repair, so thats great news. his body shop guy said it likely is the third brake light and theyre going to take care of it and hes gonna see about having them clean up the headliner. i mentioned that i didnt want to ruin it by trying to clean it with something and he agreed. so things are shaping up :)

Mine is going in friday for a leak that developed last weekend. Headliner wet and now stained on pass side headliner corner behind the seat. Also having slip yoke bump issue looked at. 2500 miles left on bumper to bumper.

I am going to assume this does not happen all the time. If you take it in to the dealer, and it does not behave like you describe, how can they fix it? Even with the video, they cannot fix it unless it does it while the mechanic is looking at it. You need to find out how to make it happen at will. Something is triggering it, can you find some common denominator? It is just as frustrating for the mechanic as it is for you. He has no idea where to even start looking. And then the customer gets pissed because he did not find out why it does it. As for them charging you for the time, I would hope they refund that once they do find the issue.

Add another leaky third brake light to the list. I was cleaning the insides of the windows yesterday and noticed a rust colored stain mostly in the rear-center by the brake light but also some on each side by the rear windows.

Took it to the dealer today. They water tested it and confirmed it was leaking. They replaced the light under warranty and tried to leave it at that until I asked to have the headliner cleaned. They did and it all came out.
