Brush Guard Vibrations

Recommended Posts

I installed my new Thunderstruck brush guard and Ive noticed that it shakes a lot on bumpy roads. Ive checked several times to make sure the bolts arent loose, but the shaking still worries me. Does anyone else with a heavy duty brushguard have this much vibration?

Im talking about heavy duty guards, not the light weight, thin made, guards like Westin or Go Rhino products.

most all of them do... you could try making some extra brackets that come through the grill to attach higher up on the bar.. thats about it

How many mounting points are on that guard? You have a lot of weight hanging free above the bumper, so it is not surprising if it shakes somewhat when you hit a bump. Does it shake all the time even on smooth roads? You r tires may be at fault here. I have a brush guard on my Nissan truck and it was pretty hefty and never shook while driving the truck.

There are two bolts holding it to the frame near the tow hooks, and two brace bars holding it near the top of the bumper. It only really shakes on bumpy roads. The county road I live down is fairly bumpy. Not like a dirt road or anything, just needs maintenance.

If they all do it, Im not gonna worry about it. Im just gonna make sure the bolts are tight with every oil change or so.

I knew they would shake some, but I didnt realise how much. My room mate in college had a Ranch Hand on his 03 that shook alot. Butm he was running around the truck one day and grabbed the guard to use as a pivot, and the damn thing came off in his hand.

I just dont want to be like that.

My truck has the Ranchhand for the last 2.5 years and dosen't move at all. I stand on the front and shake the whole truck w/o a wiggle. I think it all depends on how the company chooses to mount it to a particular model. You could use thicker steel or more bolts on the mount. I imagine the wrong size bolts could do it also.

It will not shake if I try to shake it. Only when Im driving down rough roads

Looking at your truck, I'm guessing you can see the top of the brush guard from the drivers seat? Could it be possible that your hood could be loose? It gives the perception that the guard is moving but really its the hood.
