Can't Hear Onstar Phone Calls

Recommended Posts

I just recently purchased an 06 avalanche with a 6 month onstar trial. The problem is I can barely hear the phone when someone calls and I can't hear anything when I try to make a call. Also I don't see the phone number in my DIC. I know you can see it on the gmt 900 models but not sure if you see it on the gmt 800's. Any help is appreciated!

Not sure if it is like the GMT900 but my bluetooth phone calls can be turned up or down in volume be adjusting the radio volume knob.

I can control the volume with my stereo volume controls, I had it cranked all the way and could barely hear it.

That's the same problem I had with my 08 - turn volume up all the way & can barely hear it - then hit a bump & it becomes screaming loud.

I think it's either a loose wire or it's a defect in the radio.

I had the same problem with my '06 Silveardo.....it was intermittent....is it that your door speakers are kicking out ???....mine were....barely hear the radio thru the door speakers....then all of a sudden, everything worked fine. Ended up replacing the door speakers....easy job do do also.

One of the speakers is blown in the passenger side door, may be the case with the drivers side also. I believe the onstar transmits through the driver door. Is that correct? Did the DIC show the phone numbers on your truck?

My 08 only showed the outgoing phone numbers on the dash - not the incoming.

I only got to replace the passenger speaker, than had to run errands.....I was able to hear the On Star thru that one.....but when both speakers failed, I could hear it faintly thru the drivers speaker. Replaced the drivers later that day. Removing the door panel is a 5 minute job....I spent more time drilling the holes to mount the aftermarket speakers

I got the speakers from Best Buy....cheap Kenwoods for $50....also got an adapter harness for $12....it was worth the extra $$$....no splicing of wires

Did you have to replace the head unit? My 08 GMC is having the same intermittent problem. Anything Onstar has to have the volume turned way up, backup sensor is very quiet, and my aftermarket Parrot bluetooth is also affected. Strange thing is that only voice through the Parrot system is affected. Streaming music via Bluetooth, through the Parrot, plays correctly. I disconnected the Parrot kit completely and the problem still existed. Trying to avoid going to the dealer, but haven't found many other options at this point.
