Front Hitch - Custom Made

Recommended Posts

After lots of looking around for a front hitch for my truck with no luck I made one. Total cost was $60 and took about 2 hours.

$7 for spray paint

$28 for 12" long 2" recvier

$5 for 1/2" grade 8 bolts

$20 for the rest of the metal. I had it all hanging around but I figure thats the cost to replace it.

alot cheaper than the $200 everyone was asking online!

I tested it out yesterday, I hooked the winch up to a tree and put the truck in neutral. I then winched myself and slow pressed the brakes until the tires locked up and the winch was dragging the truck. So it looks like my welds hold up to the task.

I also added a 4 and 6 pin trailer wiring hook up. I was sick of using the plug-in adapters.

now for pictures!!

Looks good! Very functional too. I had a front hitch on my last truck. You would be surprised what you can use it for once you have it.

FYI

I moved this to the "hitch and towing" thread. I also changed the title to aid in people searching topics along these lines.

Thanks!

I had one on my Jeep and used it all the time. When I got the truck that was one of the first things I wanted to do.

Please don't pull side ways with that winch on the front. I would add 45 degree gussets as close to the front of the receiver neck if you can.

I think thats a good idea!!

Thanks.

I thought about doing it but didnt think I would need it. After thinking about it more and you saying the same thing I did it. 1/4" plate. I cut a 6"x5" piece in half. any bigger I would have had to cut more of the front plastic away.

    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
