Possible Trans Failure

So i own an 07 NBS 1500 LTZ. I just recently got back from a long (7000km) roadtrip where 4000kms was pulling a midsize travel trailer (23ft v-nose just over 6000lbs) i have done a fair bit of towing in a past life and think i did everything right. I kept the truck in 3rd gear most of the way and watched the trans temp guage like a hawk. On the last morning of the trip with 450kms to go when i started the truck up i noticed a whining noise comming from the trans that matched enging revs, it sounded similar to a bad steering pump but was definately the trans. I know the oil level was good and not burnt so after the truck warmed up and the noise went away i carried on. After getting home and re-inspecting the fluid (all was good) the noise was still there until the truck warmed up and it then went away.

I'm curious if this is serious as i have plans to do another fairly long road trip with this same truck and trailer combination but am leery about being stranded on the side of the road. The truck still has about 20,000k of PT warranty but if it isnt blown i doubt a dealer would do much. Any thoughts on what a guy could/should do?

Not true. My dealer is very good to diagnose/repair based on unexpected/reproducible noise... especially power-train related.

Yeah, I'd def let the dealership take a look. Especially since you can easily reproduce the noise.

Thanks for the advise guys. I'll have to drop it off on an evening and get them to start it up in the am as once its warm the sound goes away.

Thanks

UPDATE

So the truck was in at the dealer this past week and they have decided it is the pressure pumps failing...unfortunately the parts are back-ordered a few weeks so they gave the truck back and said they will call when they are in. I'm curious now if driving it will cause undue wear or stress as my powertrain warranty is nearly up. Guess we will wait and see
