Aftermarket Remote Start, Please Help!

I have an 08 NNBS with AP8 code in glove box. (remote start prep package equipped) I want to buy aftermarket remote start system. Does the prep package only apply for Chevy Key Fobs? Or would it be possible to program an aftermarket clicker to the chevy system without buying the whole package?

Thanks!

Its for the accessory GM remote starter system to be added, not for aftermarket systems

What I dont get is I have AP8 but the last time I was at the dealership they told me that that i do NOT have the prewire for the GM setup. They then offered me an aftermarket option they can have done by a local shop that uses the original keyfob. Any else told that? Its an 09 Silverado.

Yes, you can get an aftermarket unit that uses the stock keyless entry fob. That can be added to.any vehicle, whether it has the prep package or not. It has to be installed just like any other aftermarket system, but the only difference if that it has no remotes. It just ties into the door locks and you press the lock button lime 2 or 3 times in a row to remote start it.

I would honestly just get a good 2-way aftermarket system installed. You will have superior range compared to the stock remotes, plus the two way capabilities will give you feedback on your remote to show you whether its locked or not, or whether its running or not.

If you have AP8 you can add the GM factory remote starter system, thats what AP8 is...remote start prep package.

that dealership is dumb, go to another. Either they just don't know what remote prep is or they are trying to upsell you something you do not need. You wouldn't believe the stories I got when I was shopping around for mine. btw. It is relatively simple for them to add this so don't let them charge you several hours labor to do the install. The dealership that I finally when with (GMC dealer none the less) charged a 1/4 hour and I don't think it took them even that long to do.

Thanks guys. I suspected something was up with them. Just didnt make sense. Funny thing is the aftermarket kit was cheaper then the factory option and they hire it out so its not like they make a much money if at all with that option. Morons...
