Front Sub Intermittent Failure Gmc Sierra

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Let me start off saying I am new to the site, I am a licensed electrical contractor, who installs pro audio and video systems as well as line voltage electrical. My car audio knowledge is decent but have little experience with factory equipment.

Reference: 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4x4 with non Bose Labeled Facory radio, no navigation.

My Problem: This week my front subs, (both of them at the same time), just went out, tweeters in windshield post working fine. The next day while riding down road, no major bumps or potholes, they came back in loud and clear, no static, no distortion,l then back off again. I swapped from XM to FM to CD to see if it was an internal signal problem. No change no sound, felt of wiring chase between door and body and no indication of any damage to the flex tube. They have went on and off several times since. Any suggestions. Thanks Will

Either the speakers have gone bad or wiring on the back of the speaker has worked loose. Money says it is due to speakers being bad, though. It is a known issue with the OEM speakers going bad. Replace them with aftermarket speakers and don't look back.

Speaker Issue, Dead speaker or bad wire?

Gmt-800 Speaker Replacement, that was easy

It just doesnt add up that both of them come back on at the exact same time, and sound strong and totaly clear, (no distortion). Loose wire at the amp maybe? I have now found multiple cases of this posted online, but unfortunately, no posted solutions so far.

My guess would be the head unit. If one was going in and out then I might suspect the wiring but if both cut out at the exact same time, I would start with the HU. Since you have non-bose there is no separate amp. Is the warranty up? If so, you could probably pick up a used HU pretty cheap from guys who have upgraded theirs.

Go figure, I cant even get them to come on at all now. I wanted to be sure I was actually hearing both speakers and not my ears being dillusional. It only happens when riding, and really sounds like both, but have not had the opportunity to do the open door test, lol.

Can the bose amp be added to my existing hu? Whats involved if so?

Theoretically, anything can be done. But adding the OEM bose? I cant image that being easy but I could be wrong. Maybe someone can chime in.

Might just be better off adding an aftermaket amp which would be better quality anyway assuming you get a good one (and it doesnt have to be expensive either).
