Hey guys,

Figured It was time to take the tailgate emblems off the truck. With a heat gun and a little patience it did come off but the goo behind the emblem did not. Ive taken many emblems off before and if there had been any residue, with some light scrubbing and some goo gone or wd it slowly disappears.

I have a feeling that either the dealer or the previous owner tried to put the emblem back on with some other adhesive because almost nothing will affect the glue. There was a dent behind the sierra logo, which makes me think maybe the emblem was knocked off and was put back on with something.

I've tried using heat, WD 40, other penetrating fluids, brake cleaner, goo gone, even gas but still the glue is very hard and nothing seems to get through it. does anyone have any suggestions before i go crazy. I want to take the GMC off the the other side but dont want to run into this problem.

I've run out of ideas other than just to glue the thing back on again or get the sander out and bite the bullet and have the few dents fixed and paint the whole tailgate.

thanks.

Matt

The emblems are a big pain. I took my tailgate off the truck and used all the tricks you said and it took over an hour.

Don't use Goo-Gone till all the black tape is off. Only use heat and your thumb. You will get blisters lol.

When the tape is gone use the goo-gone to remove the residue. After using goo-gone use a clay bar

It's hard to tell by the photo, but it looks like what you have left is a hard clear glue? Super or krazy glue?

If so that will be hard to get off.

Agreed. Have you tried a pressure washer at point blank range? That works.

Went to the local Napa, they didnt have the 3M wheel but they had a similar Napa version. worked great, did 99% of the work for me. Took the GMC off too, none of that crazy glue was there so it was a breeze. Thanks again for the help guys.

Glad that worked out for you, I removed all the pinstripe from my NBS with it, and the goo from the gate bow-tie and tailgate protector. It's a time saver...

Please share the NAPA part number with us...

Yes, please do. I looked all over for one (including NAPA) and no one had them. I got lucky and my soon to be brother in-law works at a body shop so I used the one they had.
