Body Lift Install Question

Recommended Posts

Gonna be adding the RC body lift and was reading over the directions for the install.

My question is regarding the Airbag.

If the Battery is disconnected why would you need to pull the Airbag Fuse?

The airbag wouldnt deploy without power.

what is the opinions on this matter? Just curious.

The airbag has an independent power source, meaning that even if their is no battery power it could still deploy.

Really? That is amazing. I better pull that fuse then. Good to know.

Thanks

Im not 100% sure that will deactivate the airbag man, honestly, Id look to see if there is a way to positively disable the bags. You dont want those bastards deploying on ya. Pulling the fuse might work, but im not 100% if that will make them safe.

I actually forgot to pull the fuse when I put it on. Glad my luck didn't run out that day... :dunno:

Ive seen one older F150 where the aribags popped when the guy was changing his body mounts, nobody got hurt but the truck was mangled.

Did he pull the fuse before trying to do the BL? Did he pull the battery cables.

You guys are scaring me.

Without the battery, where does it get the power? Is there a secondary battery somewhere else?

As far as I remember, they have a capacitor type of powersource.

Zone says that it wont deploy once the battery is un hooked... RC says to unhook the battery and pull the fuse...

I just read somewhere to unhook the battery, pull the fuse and then turn the key to the run position. Let it sit for at least one hour or two.

Read this on another forum about some other kind of car not a silverado. cant remeber.

Does that make sense?

This is good information to know.

youll be fine just follow the instructions thats what they're there for after many body lifts suspension lifts and other various vehicle modifications i have yet (knock on wood) to un-purposely set off an air bag.

lol...funny thread...disconnecting the battery will be completely fine. There is no secondary power source. They can hold a charge for about 10-15 minutes after disconnecting, which would be the same weather you pulled the fuse or not.
