1500 6.2l ?

I have a 2003 Silverado 1500 Z71 with the 5.3. I am looking at buying a new truck and want more power and towing capability. I am wondering if anyone has the new 6.2l v8 and could tell me how they pull and what kink of mileage they are getting.

The horsepower is amazing. The fuel consumption is better than you'd think.

I have 3 different engines in 3 different GMT 900 trucks and the 6.2 gets about 2MPG better than the 6.0 (when you keep your foot out of it, also not really apples to apples).

The 5.3 gets about 2MPG better in about any situation than the 6.2.

My 6.0 is in a 3/4 ton and the 5.3 is in a Tahoe. All are 4x4 and all have 3:42 except the 3/4 and it has 4:10's.

You will love the 6.2 and it will net you 17 on the highway almost any day of the week and I have seen 19.4 on the DIC (so about 18.9 real life) once.

It's by far the funnest truck to drive.

OMG you'll love the 6.2L. I have it with the NHT max trailer package that gets you the 3.73's. I'm getting consistantly 13-15 mixed driving and 17-18 highway. I've got ZERO complaints. You may not want/need the deeper gear but it's worlds different when comparing to the 3.42's that come with most of them. If you had the chance to drive them back to back, you'd see what I mean.

 

Mileage is awesome in my book and is only about 2 miles per gallon all around less than the 5.3L. But the fun factor is worth it for the loss in my book.

my trailer is a 7x16. when i tow into the wind my old 5.3 4 speed was at 3000rpm plus going 70mph. with the 6.2 6 speed i can do the same at 2500rpm.

Stupid, stupid power. I got every dollar of the $2020 that it cost me to get the 6.2 in smiles alone, every time I drive it.

 

Mileage? 15-18 mpg mixed city/highway. Don't bother with trying to run E85 because although it likes the extra octane, my mpg went down 4-5 mpg on E85 where most with 5.3's only see a 2-3 mpg difference.

 

All I've pulled thus far is my two place enclosed snowmobile trailer with two sleds in it (2200ish lbs) and yeah, was

it even back there? If I didn't see it in the mirrors when I looked, I would've never known.

15.3 combined city/highway on Shell 93. $4.09-ish per gallon.

10.7 combined city/highway on E85. $3.39 per gallon.

 

Exact same driving techniques and areas. Tried three tanks of E85 thinking that it was just me and how I was driving the truck and found the exact same results on every tank. First tank back to Shell 93? 15.5 mpg. I'm sticking with the gasoline, at this point. The $.70 a gallon difference would be worth it at a 2-3 mpg loss but not 4-5 mpg loss.

It seems like all vehicles "react" differently. Also E85 has different ethanol content. Minimum required (at least Indiana) ethanol content in E85 is 70%. I find if I run Meijer E85 that I get about 1 mpg less than when I run Gas America. One day I will get some samples and try to have a test done.

E85 is required to be at least 70% ethanol by the federal government, last I checked.

 

All we have around here for E85 stations is Mejiers.

I will get Meijers E85 only if I have to, plus they are slightly more expensive than gas america here. When I run it in the Tahoe it goes from 14-14.5 to about 12. I think they run at the high end of the 85%

I pulled a friends 8400 lb. camper when my truck was a week old. We took it to west virginia. There were many very steep inclines. The 6.2 with 3.42's was nothing short of amazing.

The 6.2 is amazing I've had mine now for a year and it makes me smile ear to ear every time I put my foot to the floor, and I can still get 15mpg when I drive it nicely.

I have a 2010 with the 6.2 and man that truck is a blast to drive!!! I just drove about 400 miles on a trip and got 19 mpg with it but I never got above 70 I was trying to see how good It would get but that was drivin like an old woman! it normally gets about 15-17. I cut the muffler off and left the resanator on and man does it sound healthy just real deep rumble but watch out when you get on it WOW!. best truck I have ever owned I had a 2009 5.3 no comparison!!!
