Got Screwed By Gm Again

I bought the tahoe cup holder for my silverado. I had it less then 2 months and the pivot point for one of the doors broke. Now they won't replace the part. Even though it carries a 12 month warranty. They claiming that policy states if the doesn't match the bin it is not covered. And the policy is absolute.

So now I have 2 month old $200 part the is no good.

After the trouble I had with my grand prix this is the last straw for gm. I will never buy another vehicle from them. It is back to Honda me.

I think he means the Tahoe/SUV console insert with the flip doors and wood trim.

Whoops too slow

The dealer wont warranty it? Try another dealer?

If this is a part that you purchased in the parts dept, it should carry a 90-day unlimited parts warranty. The grey area is that they can't file a warranty claim on your Silverado for a part that the truck didn't come with (if it didn't). The part # won't match up to the vehicle ID #.

Why did the part break? I'm only asking because I'm not familiar with what you are talking about. Not knowing what this is or where it would go on your Silverado, I can only assume that it may have broken because it was being used for something that your vehicle wasn't designed for.

No it will work in either vehicle with the center console. I believe he is talking about the LTZ cup holder (my LT tahoe has the same one my silverado has they are identical).

Yeah, that sucks... but as mentioned I believe its because your truck didn't come equipped with it. But.... it's the part that should be covered under its OWN warranty and not the truck :uhoh: I believe I'd fight a little more with them over this :dunno:

So you are mad that a dealer service department won't warranty a part that didn't come on your vehicle that you added aftermarket? And you believe Honda would be any different?

If this is a part you bought from the parts department then you have to take it up with them via the warranty on it from GM parts. Your vehicle warranty doesn't apply as it wasn't part of your vehicle build. No different than adding any other aftermarket part to your vehicle.

If you bought it on eBay or some other online company you have to take it up with them. It is not GM's problem (from the stand point of vehicle warranty) or responsibility to cover parts you add to the vehicle that did not come on the vehicle from the factory.

This is where GM makes their biggest mistake IMO........ They build tooooooo many options into each model of vehicle. Honda and Toyota use the KISS system (for the most part). When one buys a Silverado, there are hundreds of options and one option often effects the parts used in other options (thus those long RPO lists). The Japanese keep their vehicles more simple.

If this cup-holder has the slightest difference (maybe just the color), that will give it a different part # and if the part# doesn't match the vehicle ID....... no (vehicle) warranty on that part.

I'm not sure if that is the issue at all. I'm just saying that GM has wound itself into a rats nest with all these options and it sure complicates the hell out of the warranties and getting the right parts to repair your GM vehicle. I am SOOOOOOO glad to be out of that business. Heck, since I started posting on here, I am having nightmares.

I don't know about other people but i like all the options. I rented a Ford pickup a few years ago to do a job and it was loaded so i thought. No auto headlights, auto radio volume, no DRL and much more reminded me of a 1960's pickup. Just didn't impress me so no non GM vehicles for our family with 14 vehicles we replace on a regular basis usually every 3 years.

This is where GM won me over from Ford. Because you can still build it just about however you damn well please. Before I got this truck I was cross-shopping the F150. The XLT would be the closest trim-wise but I don't like chrome and the XLT is dripping in the crap. If I wanted body color and black trim I could step down to an STX, but that limited what options I could choose, including several that were "absolutes" for me. Or I could step up to the FX4, which adds some slick looking fender flares to break up the slab sided-ness of the truck but FX4 forces the center console and floor shifter and those were both things I would not buy a truck with. GM let me build a mid-level truck pretty well optioned out but keep the simple bench seats and not have a front end covered in the chrome I don't like and no one else could really do that.

Gm won't warranty the part. My local dealer bent over backwards to get it done. I spent all day trying to work with Gm on this.

As far as Honda's warranty, It's one of the best I have ever worked with. And I do believe this would not happen with them. I have had 2 hondas and never had anything like this.

You need to stand behind your parts or don't offer a warranty.

Any way you can fix it? Let's see a pic of that broken part and maybe someone can come up with an idea.

It seems like a total drag and now your truck is a POS and all that, but maybe you need to just keep in in perspective? You still have a REALLY nice truck :uhoh:
