When To Change Air Filter

Recommended Posts

I have an '04 with 80K miles on it, when I got the truck 25k miles ago I thought I would just wait until the gauge told me to replace the air filter. But it's been 25,000 miles and over a year and the gauge reads the same. How many miles/months do ya'll usually go before replacing? Is the gauge accurate?

Don't remember what the book says, but I usually replace mine about every 15,000 miles now. Then again, I only put about 7,500 miles a year on my truck.

If I were putting 25,000 miles a year on it, like I used to, I would replace it once a year.

Replacement of an air filter is recommended when there is any spot in the filter media that you cannot see light through.

i'm on my 2nd air filter in 65k...i noticed my little air filter guage dosen't move much so i pulled the filter out one day and found a ton of dead bugs in the box along with what looked like a dirt ring where the intake sucked through the filter..so i changed it, 50 bucks a filter is steep though lol

50 Bucks! What do ya'll think about a $20.00 filter?? Not sure what all the auto part store has put I would try not to spend $50 on one unless absolutely necessary.

I've got an 08 with 42,000 km on it on the original filter. My gauge was not showing anything. If my Dealer had told me it needed replacing I would have scoffed at him. I decided to put a new one in anyways. Old filter looked pretty clean, only some light graying on the paper.

WOW, what a difference, it feels like a new truck(6.0 litre). I would never have believed it. So I say change at least every 2 years if you drive on paved roads, maybe every 1 year if you can afford it.
