Looking At Another Travel Trailer.

Going to get another toy hauler trailer. So I pulled the rating on my 1500 and it appears to be 10,500lbs trailer weight. Wow, that is the same as the newer diesel I just got rid of. I don't think I would want to hang +/- 10.5K off the back of a 1500, it just seems too much. I'm sure it wouldn't like that much... I've owned 3/4 ton diesels for 12 years, and getting back to the 1500, so I don't know how these 1500 models do. Do you guys think my 1500 will handle 7-8Klbs ok? 5-6 hour hikes?

Yes... I owned a 2007 Vmax with 4.10 gears and towed 6500 lbs fairly regular without issue. The extra 500-1500 lbs wouldn't hurt a thing. The 6500lbs for me was the camper and gear. On many occasions, I loaded the bed full of firewood, so I would have been close to the 7-8k range easily. Truck hardly noticed the difference with the extra firewood.

Thats great news! I just got my brake controller installed and am now on the prowl for a camper.

I own an 07 Vmax crew cab with 3.73's. I don't camp but pull open and enclosed car trailers. The truck pulls open trailer weighing 6k loaded just fine. The 24ft. enclosed weighs 4400 empty, and I've weighed the combo at 14,700 loaded. It will pull that ok up to 65mph until a large hill comes up. Even with a good weight dist. hitch and sway control, it gets interesting when an 18 wheeler passes you on the interstate. I would recommend a 2500HD for what you're planning. Suspension, wheelbase and braking upgrades will be much appreciated.

I may end up back in a 3/4 ton. I had bought a new Ford diesel a couple years ago, and I was so disappointed with it within 6 months I wanted out of it, BAD. So when I finally sold it a couple months ago I wanted to try the Silverado 1500 6.0L. You just can't beat the fit and finish of a Silvy.. If this 1500 doesn't work out I will get a 2500. Atleast I'm back to GM now!! I was thinking a loaded Vmax would sell pretty fast on the used market if it wasn't enough truck for me. I looked a long time before I found this one locally.
