Have two dirt bikes i've been workin on and I have been recently working my cousins 87 kx125, it def needs some tlc but runs like a top! last owner(s) never rode it much, garage kept most its life so the comp. are in really good condition, but as of now I have the DB down to just frame and shocks getting it ready for a bath. So anyone else work on Dirt bike or just love to ride old school bikes like I do? Oh the second bike is an 89 Suzuki RMX 250, its my baby and is going to get a full head to toe resto in the next year in a half, parts can be made but will cost $$$$$!!!

Good luck with the restos. I restored a 78 KE 100 street/trail a few years ago, lots of work, but lots of fun. I dont really like riding old bikes though, too many brakedowns, especially when i was alone, and far from home.

The only part I had break on my bike was the chain once but other than that mechanically sound.

Cool!! Fixing up old dirtbikes is a blast, especially when you can have fun on 'em.I recently did that on an old Honda XR350,lotsa fun riding :sigh:

fixing them is fun but riding them is more fun! But oh so bumpy on the old suspensions compared to the new technology.

I try to stick with the ones I know will get me out of the woods.

I've been riding since 1980. Still race now in the Vet B class sometimes.

A buddy of mine is rebuilding an 89 YZ250. Full tear down. Powder coat the frame, new bottom and top end for the engine, new plastic, tires, front disc. Replaced the triples and forks with those of a 2000 YZ. New rear shock, all new bearings and bushings. And a new carb, pipe and silencer. All in I think he is sitting around 3K.

It's been a year long process for this.

I have a 2003 CR250 that I may build into the super sweet AF500. My brother just built one, so now I gotta have one too......

My trail machine is an 08 KTM XCF450. Great for hill climbing!

it seems like I am always working on my late model bikes I wouldnt have time for an old one to rebuild.

now rebuilding streetbikes is a different story.

If I ever get my hands on a new bike, It will probably be the KTM 350, best of both worlds in performance and handling. some of 250 qualities and some of 450 qualities, but for now, its gettin this KX125 fixed and sell-able then on to my big project bike my 89 Suzuki RMX 250 cross country bike. such a beast and still havent been beaten yet........ :sigh:
