Please dont do it.

They blind oncoming drivers and make your truck look cheap. To top it off they are illegal.

they are only illegal if they aren't within the proper color range... as long as they are somewhat white (not too blue or not too yellow) they will pass inspection.

and they only blind oncoming drivers when the installer does it half a$$ and doesn't readjust the lights.

If you dont replace the housing with a projector style housing that is designed to use HID bulbs then it is illegal. HID bulbs in a stock silverado/gmc reflector housing are illegal. period.

In order to not blind oncoming traffic you have to aim the projectors so low you dont see any advantage going with HID lights. To top it all off they make the truck look like crap. You might as well run a 747 size rear spoiler and NOS stickers all over the truck.

Just for the hell of it, what law is being broken? Is it a local, state or federal law? Just trying to get some credibility to your statements.

It is a federal standard, FMVSS section 108 to be specific, but every state requires that vehicles conform to FMVSS. So, it is a state law based on federal guidelines.

Here is a quote from Washington state highway patrol..

Vehicle Lights

Are high intensity discharge (HID) conversion kits legal?

No, in order for a headlight to be legal for use in Washington State, it must conform to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 108 requirements for headlights. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has concluded that it is impossible to produce HID conversion kits (converting a halogen system to HID) that would be compliant with FMVSS 108.

Halogen equipment uses an electrical current to heat a metal wire coil filament to incandescence, while the HID conversion kit's light source incorporates a discharge arc to produce light. HIDs require a ballast for operation. Under FMVSS 108 Section S7.7 (replacement light sources), each replaceable light source for headlamps must be designed to conform to the dimensions and electrical specifications for the headlamp source it is intended to replace. For example, if an HID kit is marketed as replacing an H1 light source, then it must match the H1's wire coil filament size and location, the electrical connector size and location, and the ballast design for use with an H1 light source (which is impossible since there is no ballast).

NHTSA believes this equipment presents a safety risk to the public since the kits can be expected to produce excessive glare to oncoming motorists. In one investigation, NHTSA found that an HID conversion headlamp exceeded the maximum candlepower by over 800 percent.

I have them in my truck, they look awesome, work great and have never been ticketed, questioned or even flashed by another car. How exactly do lights that are only in high end vehicles make a vehicle without them stock look cheap?

Please dont do it.

Park your truck next to a mercedes or lexus..... Trust me, you will notice the difference right away  The way I look at it HID bulbs in a gmt-900 are no different than 5.0 badges on a v6 mustang. All show, no actual improvement to the vehicle.

I see several gmt-900s with hid lights in the reflector housing and without a doubt they are some of the worst lights on the road.

read my first post, before we were so rudely interrupted by other people's opinions on the subject!:rolleyes:

they should last the life of your truck if you buy the proper kit initially. the one the spencershids.com sells, like i mentioned before, comes with a lifetime warranty as long as you own the kit.

other places to look would be XenonDepot (forum sponsor), DDMTuning (reputation of slow shipping and horrible customer service, but the cheapest around), or VVME (haven't heard anything bad about them)

Sorry to interrupt. I just thought it might be useful for people to know that the kits are illegal. Believe it or not, some people actually care about things like that
