remote entry?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, me again,

when I purchased my truck it came with what looks to be a remote lock transmitter but there are not identifying info on it, just 2 buttons. Anyway I replaced the battery and still no remote. Is there a fuse for this system and could I actually have it? Do I have to program it possibly?

                                                        Thanks, Mike

I don't know if this applies to a '95 but it's worth a try to resync the tansmitter.

Stand close to your truck and hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 7 seconds.  The doors should then cycle to confirm synchronization.

Well after careful study what looks like remote entry may very well be an old alarm system. My transmitter does not look like a factory GM one to me. I found a disconnected alarm horn under the hood and behind the fuse panel is a small push button switch. I guess if I can get a hold of the correct RPO code I will know for sure.

It's official, I do have an alarm system. I found a website where you can lookup the FCC number and find out what you have.

The question is....is it a factory alarm or aftermarket??? My truck still may have keyless entry but I never got a transmitter when I bought it.

All I know is the RPO code (remote entry) for a '98 is AU0.  I don't know if that would apply to your '95 as well.  Check the RPO codes in your glovebox and see if you have something like that.

Thanks for all the great replies all. No I do not have that RPO so likely no keyless entry..boo. oh well.

Well if the factory alarm works off the horn then for sure it is aftermarket.

One real curious question!!!! On the windows there is a sticker which reads.."Protected by Alarm" and in the middle it has the GM insignia and a parts insignia? Could this be a sticker for the "radio" alarm???

Could be the GM add on alarm system.  They came with a key fob that looks like the factory keyless entry fob.  Haven't seen those in a while.  I'll see what I can dig up.

I checked with all of my usual sources to come up with a pic of the system, but was not successful.  I talked to a parts manager friend of mine too.  He said that he was not able to find the accessory alarm in his catalogs.  He is still looking into it further to come up with a part number.  The kit contained 2 rectangular key fobs (no logos) with a lock and unlock button and a panic button (he also thought that the earlier version had 2 buttons).  There was also a black box that mounts under the dash.  Depending on which level of alarm, the entry level kits used the horn and the systems with motion sensors, etc. also had a black alarm horn to mount under the hood.  I'll post the part number and further details my friend comes up with.
