Sluggish Start

i got a 2000 gmc sierra with 281k miles on it and here lately its been very sluggish taking off if i just crank it and go but if i let it run for about 5 minutes or so then drive it has no problems. would this be due to the bad knock sensors or just the fact that its an old engine? or maybe something else?

When, if ever, has the engine had an injection cleaning job done? Fuel Filter? Not so sure about knock sensors but could be another sensor going out, telling the pcm the wrong fuel information at the wrong time. I'd start by taking it to an auto parts store and have them run a diagnostic on it to see what, if any, codes might be there. Just some thoughts.

hasn't had a new fuel filter in about 2 years ( i really dont know how often its recommended to change it) and as far as injection cleaning goes i put injection cleaner in the gas tank every oil change. only trouble codes are for the KS, so maybe time for a fuel filter?

If there are no relavent codes then I might proceed with injector service. With that many miles they might be getting gummed up even with using cleaners. The service did wonders on an old '94 I worked on years ago. Filter is a possibility but if it's only been a couple of years maybe not. I'm still betting on a sensor problem. The truck might be running too lean at start up then once warm the leaner mix is the proper mix. May even try cleaning/replacing your MAF & MAP sensors.

Fuel pump might be going out, fuel filter itself, or injectors, like mentioned above?

how hard is it to drop the tank and replace the pump? ive been told easiest way is to remove the bed but for a job that will take place in my yard i dont have the means to do that

I was just curious as to if you had found a fix for your truck yet.

havent got to fix that part yet because the day after i posted this the heater coil hose and inlet to the firewall for the hose both busted on my way to work at 3am (horrible time to have to walk right) so its on my to do list now

if your still curious i fixed the problem today finally. started with the fuel filter and sure enough it was full of black sludge and the inside was broke. you could literally rattle the filter. so needless to say replacing that filter made it seem as though i was driving a brand new truck lol
