Somebody ask me how I played a large roll in getting Fiat banned from importing vehicles into this country in 1981. It has a LOT to do with this exact subject..........

It's not the tires, if it was you you have it all the time not just when you get around 60 or 70 mph.

I had the same problem and took my truck to my friends place to have them balanced 3 times, he then asked when do I start to have the problem and I told him when I get around 100 to 120 kms. first thing he said was it's in no way could be the tires or it would be doing it all the time.

It's a valid point and thanks for the input. However, I see two scenarios where the tires/rims could be the cause at highway speeds only:

1) vibration occurs all the time, but grows in amplitude with faster speeds. I suspect its too faint to feel below 50mph and I

haven’t had the opportunity to increase speed much over 80mph yet. With my truck the vib occurs at most speeds over 50mph.

2) being a dynamic system (frame, suspension components all tied together) at certain speeds it achieves a resonant frequency which produces a constant and heavy vibration throughout the vehicle.

Regardless, just want the dealership to find and fix the issue... I do a lot of highway driving!

Also, did you resolve your vibration issue? If so, what was the cause?

I just picked my truck up today from the dealer, this is really funny. I told them that it happens at highway speeds. They told me they could not find anything wrong with my truck and told me to come pick it up. So as I pick up my truck I notice that they only put 5 kms on the truck,the closest highway is 8 to 10 kms away from the dealer. I'm now looking for another dealer.

Did anyone at the dealership go on a test drive with you? This is mind boggling....... I personally would not start over with another dealer in this case. This is a problem for the selling dealer to resolve. You can call GM Cares and request a factory rep to go on a test drive with you.

I went to my dealer last week to drop it off and was told to come back on Monday so the service manger would go on a test drive with me, I'm at the dealership at 7:30 am Monday and they tell he just got off an airplane at 1am, but he would be taking it home with him for a test drive. I'm going to call the fleet rep. from the dealership I dealt with to see what he thinks about all of this

WOW! No way someone at a dealership would be taking MY truck home with them for personal use, that's terrible. That truck should test test driven with YOU driving and the service manager sitting in the passanger seat. Don't allow him to take your truck!

Dealers do it all the time when trying to diagnose issues. Mechanics will take the vehicle home because of the long distance test drive which allows for them to try to duplicate the issues. Most good dealers will top off the fuel though after doing so.

My 99 a service tech drove it for a week. I had an intermittent problem when it was at around 31k. I had took it in several times and they could never reproduce it. I handed their best tech the keys. Said its full of gas drive it for a week back and forth to work. It was in the fall of the year.

You would stop at a stop sign in the morning when the air was cool/cold, and it would die.

When they finally got around to driving my truck when I left it over night it would be warm and the problem would not be there.

Too much water under the bridge, I don't remember what it was but it had something to do with the EVAP tank in front of the gas tank.

He got it on Friday drove it till Thursday in the next week said, it did it and I know what it is and I have ordered the parts..... That Friday I picked it up and it was fixed. Has never done it again. He put 400 miles on my truck but fixed it. And yes the dealer filled it back up.

Update on my SD -

So, just rcvd v-mail from service manager at dealership. Said they have another new SD on the lot and wants me to dive/compare my truck with the one on their lot. Got to admit the dealership is being very responsive (as they should, its an expensive truck!).

Given the high level of customer service at the dealership, I'm thinking best approach is to let the dealership handle for now prior to getting the GM Rep involved? Any advice on this front would be appreciated.

Wow, it seems this is a common problem. I also had the service manager drive with me, I was tired of having other people drive it and put miles on it and I was not about to waste more time driving other trucks on the lot.

Back to my original post, the service manager ordered new tires and they are arriving Friday. When he said they might not be allowed to order new tires I asked what the next step would be at that point and he mentioned calling a GM rep, which was actually recommended to me earlier on but I wanted to give the dealership the opportunity to fix it. I was surprised that he was going to actually have me call the number, I figured that wouldn't reflect well on the dealership but I guess not.

I'm hoping this time on Friday I will have a vibration-free truck...
