Outlook Towing Help!

I have a 2009 Saturn Outlook XE, to make a very long story short I was lead to believe at purchase that I could tow over 4500lbs with it; I would just need to install the tow package\hitch etc. which the salesman said they could do later if needed.

Fast forward 2 yrs., I am in the process of purchasing a 2700lbs popup trailer and called the dealer about the tow package. I was informed that this option is factory only and they are not allowed to install it after the fact. Basically, they gave me no options and told me that this vehicle can only tow 2000lbs since it didn't have the factory tow installed.

From what I have gathered the primary functional differences in having the tow package or not is "tranny cooler" and more beefy rear springs.

Question –

What do you guys thing about the idea of installing an aftermarket tranny cooler, perhaps even upgrade the rear springs? People are towing 4000lbs boats with outlooks\acadias and while I know my upgrades are not factory, I'd like to think I would be okay. At this point I am out of warranty and on my own anyways. Besides, couldn't I tow it a few times and then have the tranny serviced to see if it shows signs of overheating etc?

Thanks for reading, any GM heads or Tranny guys would love to hear your opinions!

If you find out that all you need is a tranny cooler and maybe an add-a-leaf is all you need, then I'd say yes, you'd be fine.

I agree with Steven. Add the transmission cooler and beef up the rear suspension and you should be fine.

Since you're out of warrenty anyways, you can't void the warrenty. ;)

Let me throw in that Air Lift makes a very inexpensive air spring kit for your Outlook... and easy way to give yourself some extra spring rate, and fully ajdustable!
