Brake Controller Dilemma

Hey guys just hooked up to the camper yesterday and guess what? no brakes. I have a Tekonsha Voyager that is pretty old. It is hooked up properly through the plug in under the dash. I have control of the brakes with the manual slide but not when moving. I tried leveling the controller and starting over but the controller won't level out the LED just stays red the whole time. I have good power and good grounds but my RED wire for when the brake pedal is depressed has 12.5 VDC all the time and when I hit the brakes it goes down to .9 VDC. When I hooked up the unit 8 months ago I had 0 VDC and when I hit the brakes it sent voltage to the unit. Any help would be appreciated. I am heading to Denver on monday and then camping that next weekend so I need to get it figured out.

Alright so I used my handy dandy short finder courtesy of the railroad and i have a dead short between my ground wire and the RED wire at the 6 way plug under the dash. Does anybody have access to a wiring schematic for these trucks on how the wires are routed through the truck? The only thing that is different between now and back in april (last time I towed the camper) is the truck going to the body shop where they pulled the bed off to replace the side of it. But I don't have any shorts back at the plug except for a tiny one on the lighting circuit which is understandable due to it being a series circuit. Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the brake controller is not getting the brake light switch input.

the brake peddel side function is burned out they go after awhile .

Maybe try and swap with a known good controller before chasing all the wiring. I'm pretty sure the Takonsha Envoy's and Prodigy's have the same plug on the rear of the controller. Maybe other versions of the Takonshas do as well. My only other thought would be that some how your getting the 12v power fed back through the brake pedal wire somehow. Maybe when removing the bed they pulled the wires hard enough back at the hitch to mess them up. The brake pedal switch should not have any juice when not depressed or activated. Wish I could be of more help.

Te only thing that tells me that it's not back by the bed is because of the green light. That green light indicates a complete circuit through the trailer. Where is this switch located or the fuses that work with it?

Well I moved the camper into the driveway just now and was able to LEVEL the controller and now it works. I don't know what was causing the issue but either it fixed it self or I made some stupid mistake on trying to LEVEL it the other day. Thanks guys.

You really owe yourself a $100 Prodigy P2. No level issues, and better braking performance.

make that a P3, be on top of the technology and have a pleasurable towing experience.

No need to level, just make sure it's pointed straight forward and it takes care of the rest.

The P3 has the same braking performance as the P2, but better diagnostics/display. Not worth $30 to me, but...

How about P2 minimum?

yeah in the near future i will be getting a P2 at minimum and i agree $30 isn't really worth having more buttons and a larger controller.

do as you will, but for me I like the appearance and easy of control better with the P3.

There is easy to read diagnostics screens, change the display color to match dash lights and much more.

Looks much better than a black box hanging under my dash.

I ready have an old Prodigy, pre-P2. Love it. But my next truck will have it integrated.
