2003 Silverado Rough Idle

Hi Guys

 

I've got an 03 silverado 1500 with the 5.3 V8. Here is the problem, the truck idle's really rough and sounds like its about to quit. I notice it when Im almost to a stop an when its just in park. But it doesn't do it all the time an when I get on the gas it drives fine. I also noticed that the exhaust stinks when it does this, but not any other time. I took it to a mechanic an he checked the plugs, looked good an put in a new fuel filter. Any ideas what it might be?? A buddy of mine said could be EGR valve is that someting I could check myself?

In no particular order.......

 

Dirty/coaked throttle body

Fuel pressure regulator leaking fuel into it's vacuum supply hose

Intake gaskets leaking

Partially plugged catalytic converters

Intake gaskets. Easy 2hr driveway job for a novice.

if you have never cleaned the throttle body then try that first. make sure to get throttle body cleaner and do not use regular carb cleaner. intake gaskets leaking should throw a lean condition bank 1 or bank 2 code. when my throttle body was dirty it idles extremely slow but did not throw any codes. when my intake gaskets were leaking i was getting codes.
