Pulse Felt Through Gas Pedal

Hey all,

Maybe someone can shed some light on this issue. Brand new truck 2300 miles or so on it. It's developed or maybe I've just started feeling it, a pulsing in the gas pedal when i start out for the first time. It does it twice then stops until i turn it off then drive it again. Any ideas?

WOW I thought I was going nuts with that vibrating pedal so I traded the tahoe in after 6 months on a different one and didnt say anything to the dealer and then the new one started doing it

Yeah it's a self-check of ABS or something similar. Mine doesn't do it every start I don't think but it's normal on newer cars.

My '11 Silverado 4x4 does the exact same thing first time starting out in the morning.

I was going to mention it to the dealer the first time I take it in.

Very annoying to say the least.

If you do take it in post up with their reply. I thoguht maybe I was going crazy too but I guess it makes some sense. This is my first new vehicle. Its alot different then the 06 G6 GTP I had or the 93 wrangler I usually drive everyday. The G6 didn't have this on it,but it was manual also.

DBW has no motor only perimeters and can only read foot position and cannot respond. Your feeling the vehicle respond to the ABS self check where the brake/StabiliTrak control respond.

It's a stretch but maybe the return spring on the throttle pedal itself is resonating with the exhaust note. Think of it as two tuning forks side by side. If you hit one fork, the other fork will vibrate if both are tuned to the same frequency. Certain exhausts can cause droning that make other parts in your cab vibrate the same way. It could be the ABS self check but I can barely even detect mine in the brake pedal let alone the gas pedal

Maybe it's the "Heartbeat of America."

Sorry I couldn't resist. Seems to be totally normal. My current truck does it and the previous one as well as my wife's car did/do something similar.

I too believe it's an ABS self test on startup, a slight knock-knock on the pedal.

I have noticed some wierd feedback in the gas pedal when I loose traction accelerating in the snow. When traction control and stabilitrac are ON, the ABS works on it's own to keep the truck going straight, the ABS feedback is normal... I also notice a slight dimming in the headlights when ABS is working. (I assume this is normal, as the ABS must require some serious juice, and the truck is most often at idle when experiencing ABS.)

What I don't understand is when both are OFF, I still get some ABS-like crunching feedback in the gas pedal when the tires are spinning, and the lights dim... even though ABS is not actively braking. I think traction control is still running when you turn it off, just not actively. The indicator in the dash flashes when I loose traction, so i know something is going on.

Any one else get any feedback in the gas like that?
